5 GT Turbo EFI - GT Turbo

Thanks @andybond, I have been messaging Lee but no reply for a while.

A small update - I dropped engine over to Mark today, he has started to strip it down already and confirmed the cam was in fact the Piper 285 not the Catcam as first thought. No vernier so not sure what cam was timed at but gone ahead and bought a vernier. Waiting for a further update on pistons etc but seems there were only small amounts of debris in sump, hopefully no other damage found.

Need to order new chain and tensioner plus bearings etc.

Other than that I need to order new turbo.

small amounts of debris in sump
Wait...what? How is there debris in the sump when the problems were in the inlet, and cylinders? How does debris get from a cylinder to the sump without a hole in the piston?

Doesnt make sense, unless its literally dust thats scraped past the piston in the cylinder.

Recommend you buy a magnetic sump plug....

I have just purchased a magnetic sump plug, good call.

Oil pump needs refurbishing, crank needs a regrind too.

Vernier, head gasket, timing chain and tensioner turned up today. Currently waiting on AEM oil temp gauge to arrive. Planned ETA is mid to late Jan for completion.

There was very small amounts of metal in the sump, i noticed them as soon as i pulled the sump off. Wasn't a massive amount though, just the odd bit. One of the pistons rings had stuck in slightly so minute bits could of got past, was on the worst piston too
Pistons were scrap, all have had impact damage from the broken valve guide

After a bit of advice.
So thinking of changing from Bosch reds to these VXR blues. Does anyone know the flow rate difference between the two ? Or hp increase, I believe the reds are good to 260hp.

Also I'm assuming changing injectors will mean current map will be way off ? Of course will need to be mapped again what with changing Cam, Turbo etc. But if I was to swap injectors and run on current map just to get up to Scoffs will that be ok ? @DaveL485 might be a good one for you.

IMG_5191.webp That's the thing, struggling to find accurate flow rates.

In terms of cam, going to run 270 retarded to 114/115. Here is a pic difference compared to original 285. GTX2860r Turbo.

Turns out Blues are 470cc at 3bar and Bosch Reds are 346cc. Quite a big difference.

Will run car in on reds then swap to blues on day of mapping. That's makes sense.

It shouldnt be too far off then, with a milder cam itll be rich if anything. Obviously you'll have to back fuelling off when the new injectors go in but if you're on the dyno it should be fine.

Be interested to see how they perform as I am looking for a set myself and am uncertain which ones to go for
