EBS 5 Turbo restoration

Hi Mark,

Yes, me! Well, not me, I'm having it done. I was wondering when someone would ask the question - well done on spotting the photos!

The car was my wife's birthday present. I couldn't get it finished in time. In fact, it won't be finished until Sept or thereabouts.

It's a GT Turbo - one of the 14 RHD ones that were converted.

I've managed to go back to Belgium, to the original company, to buy the panels, so hopefully work will proceed at a pace now. We're having the bodywork done, but not the engine (which, touch wood, runs ok at the mo). Then will get it back here and work on the sundries. My wife has already unpicked the rear window from the hood, and will cut a new one and sew it in place.

We have found a decent Raider interior, so will be putting that in, along with a brand new carpet. The car will be Raider blue (as it is now, though it was red originally).

Should be good when it's finished! I'll try to post more info here when I have it. I was keeping quiet about it previously so my wife didn't find out before her birthday. She's obviously very excited and rather impatient about it!

Thanks,

Andrew

andrew, there are approx 4 different shades of raider blue. - the best one being the one that looks purple in certain light - my opinion obviously :D

We have an EBS 5GT in the workshop at the moment (a Customers). Imported by Radbourne weren't they? I had never seen one before.
Interesting cars.

Hi Sam,

Definitely... Good on you - what's being done to it?

Is it one of these that I already know about? I've got the current known list here:

http://www.r5gordini.co.uk/wiki/Renault ... onvertible

Maybe the owner wouldn't want their car publicised, but it would be interesting to know as I'm trying to track them all down. I would love to hear from the owner if they can contact me. Perhaps tell them about the site?

I believe I have the complete list of EBS GT Turbos on this page. There were only about 12 to 13 RHD examples converted.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew.
It is Tungy grey. I dont know if it is that H-reg one in your list, as it doesnt have plates on.
The owner keeps quite a low profile I believe, but browses the forums. I will mention your register :)
It is a very very tidy original car. Bodywork is very good, and still has 2 mxv's on it. But is being mostly rebuilt I believe. He likes to drive/use them, but wants them as close to new as possible, so he knows they are 'right' underneath. My dad built a Raider for him too.

If I have anything to share, I will let you know.
Hope you restoration is going well, good work getting spare panels!!! :D

Hi Sam,

It probably is H717 EBY:

It's a Type II - this has original Renault quarter panels and doors that have just been cut down. Ours is an EBS Type I - which has custom quarters, doors and tailgate. I went to Belgium to the original company and bought the panels. They are all now fitted and primed:

The engine bay is now painted and the engine should be in this week.

Cheers,

Andrew

Just checked your pictures, wow. So much work has gone into that!!!! Amazing.

I don't think its that one then. This one was in the Radbourne show room all those years back, when they where first imported. Its completely original it seems.
Will try and find out a bit more :D
