21 Turbo E921 BUR

I was having a good poke around the other day after giving the interior a damn good clean. Found what looks like an after market alarm and some lovely connectors. Also looks like the switchable boost wiring has been getting a little warm as some of the insulation has melted.

Did the 21 come with an alarm as standard? or just central locking?

Clutch seems to be slipping @ waste gate pressure too :( most noticeable in 5th at low rpm, when it comes on boost it behaves like a CVT. Its fine at standard boost.

What sort of power do they produce at 17psi? because compared to my 182 its alot quicker... in a straight line, especially overtaking!

When the MOT runs out im so tempted to strip it, get the shell dipped and rebuild it. I bloody love this car I want it to last forever:ag: As a daily its perfect.

Your Phase 1 will be just infrared remote central locking. The very later ones, late J and K plates did have an alarm, but no Phase 1's

You're probably around 210hp, and 220-ish torque. The midrange torque band is very good.

Stop it from rotting, thats the single biggest killer.

Morning,

Ive not forgotten those oil cooler hoses, they're yours but I just haven't sent them yet.

I'll ask an ex owner Phil if he still has his clutch for sale.

He still has it, brand new 3 piece kit.
Call Phil if interested on 07796442774

If you change the clutch, change the spigot bearing too and the clutch fork if it's an old style one (post a pic of the top by the slave and i'll tell you if its new or old)

I think there is even a slave cylinder recon kit (its basically a seal, sheath and nipple cap) in the club shop still. Pretty sure I have one in stock anyway.

FYI. The slave cylinder was brand new from France 3yrs ago.

I'd say your ur spot on Dave it was rolling roaded before the flowed head went on @18psi @220bhp with the TXI throttle, 60trim comp, injectors and exhaust.

Check the dizzy isnt leaking oil down the back of the head on to the bellhousing, I did change the dizzy shaft seal a few years back as it was leaking before.

.

Thanks for everyone's replies.

@la21t No worries, do you want me to at least donate some ££ to the site?

@ren5gord, No leaking or dripping down the head but some old residue on the bell housing. Thinking about it, it could be my new master cylinder rod that I made is slightly too long (its adjustable) and is holding a little pressure on the clutch.

The Clutch disc was new about 25K ago, if the slave is pre-loading the clutch not only will the clutch slip but it doesn't do the thrust bearings any good on the crank as you are end loading it.

In extreme cases the Mains end up spinning and take out the engine!! You would be surprised at how often supposed RACE CAR Builders / preparers end load cranks and destroy engines as they fail to check crank end float after bolting on the gearbox!! Even with specific instructions!!

Take it from someone who's done it... it's a F*CKING NIGHTMARE!! Dipping the shell shows you all of the rot & stuff to repair, but the problem is it also gets rid of all the factory seam sealing, and that takes forever to re-apply... and when you get the bodyshell ready for paint, finding a reliable bodyshop to paint the car is also hard work.... :be:

I knew there was someone here who had done it.
Couldn't think who.

Yeah make a donation in here if you want mate, I'll likely suggest that for all my silly bits and bobs.

The bodywork doesn't phase me, I've repaired and painted quite a few cars. Im pretty sure I read someone's thread on here who dipped their R11 shell. I enjoy the build as much as the finished product

Few more little jobs I finished/started:

Repairing the Boost pressure switch. I didnt have a barbed fitting to hand but this will do for now.

i2.photobucket.com_albums_y24_orangeclio_IMG_0211_zpseaaqm3rg.webp

Stripped my drivers seat down to repair the broken side bolsters. came apart surprisingly easy.

I'll also need to patch this lower seat section.

Velour seats, an epitomisation of the 80's if ever there was one. You need a filofax on the passenger seat and a breeze block mobile phone to finish it off :D
