Cold idle problems

G

Guest

Morning all.

OYT has developed an annoying idle when on cold. Drops revs and occasionally cuts out. Seems to only happen when its cold, so I'm led to believe, from what I've been told, its the the coolant temp sensor?

Whats the score? Easy to change?

Ta :)

Oh how I don't miss this problem!!! I would personally recommend cleaning up your Idle control valve (i think that's it)- at least thats what ppl recommended and it cleared the problem right up! :)

Its also lambda related sometimes. I had it all the time. Got a new lambda and the problem is fine. Although the problem is still there when its really damp sometimes

I argree with all 3 of you but Im leaning towards temp sender not allowing the choke to work when cold as if it was the Idle control valve It would stall all the time and the lamda would cause I problem most of the time to but souldnt really make the car stall!!

i had similar problem as described, cleaned my iscv and its fine now. Only cut out occaisionally warm, when coming up to junctions etc, but was mainly when it was cold

Humm, ok, will give the ISCV a clean this evening and see if it clears it up. I don't think it will as its an only when cold problem though.

Thanks for the help guys :)

Sometimes I only had this problem when it was cold or if it rained. Let us know...

mark, your car had a similar problem and it was due to the ignition module.

Do the revs occilate up and down?

Right, little update.

Removed and cleaned as good as I could, the ISCV, whipped it all back on and started her up. Was running fine for about 2 or 3 minutes, then started to drop a little. I decided to play with the throttle a little, and found that it suffers really badly further up the rev range. Holding it at anywhere between 1.5k and 3.5k, it drops down to .5k, then eventually, after about 5 or 10 seconds, come back up to the original revs. It comes up sooner if you let the throttle off, then put it back on.

Any ideas? :?

Sounds similar to Ronnie's problem which turned out to be the ignition module.

Yeah sounds the same to me try a new Ignition mod or PM me as I have a few in my tool box.

But I did also change the CTS!!!

How hard are they to change? Don't mind getting my hands dirty, but I'm still learning :)

And CTS?

Check your pm's in a mo Mark :)

New ignition module on the way courtesy of Clio_Wizard, cheers dude :)

I've been told it could be the Coolant Temp sensor too. Might have to wait and see as its on holiday for a week next week!

how did u get on with this mate? ive got what sounds to be the same problem... ta

I'm still waiting for my ignition module from Mark, however, car is away on holiday this week, so will be the weekend at the earliest when I try again.

Will let you all know how I get on though :)

Took ages to find this topic again!! Wasn't the ignition module after all that trouble of getting it :P So, tomorrow night we try a new map sensor instead. Watch this space :)
