whichever renaults, pugs and citroens have the same rear brakes.

how can you tell if they are the same? Strip them down and look. Some got girling some got bendix, thankfully bendix is more wide spread.

awesome thanks for that chris, one more semi/possibly fully stupid question, which brakes do i have, theyre the cylinders with the roundy back on them as opposed to the oval backed ones

I have no idea what your talking about with ovals etc.

those ones in that ebay listing are girling ones are yours the same as that?

Yes, we've discussed that before quite recently, the one shown in that listing is a Lucas/Girling type, it has the oval shaped bit that protrudes through the backplate.

The other type (Bendix) has a circular bit instead.

Yes, this means you can tell whether the car has Girling or Bendix rear brakes without stripping them down to look, just look round the back of the backplate and check the shape of the bit that sticks through.

FWIW I've only ever seen 1 with Girling... Bendix seems to have been way way more common.

Yeah I remember the discussion just couldn't find the thread, it is indeed the roundy bendix one, the adjusters are all I need now, have the shoes and cylinders thankfully, the adjusters are quite expensive on the bay so i'll try breakers first

nothing at all in the breakers so i decided to bump this one up again, as a matter of interest would the adjusters from a french built toyota yaris be of any use with or without modification although i would rather originals so anyone who can keep their eyes peeled i would be very greatful
many thanks
this guy

what to do so you can use it is get it adjusted out then dob a bit of weld on it. That way the handbrake and brakes will work, just means longer pedal travel as the shoes wear.

that seems like a good idea, the current adjuster is only missing the tiny little ring thing, the one that looks like a washer with teeth, the yaris one seems to have the same washer type thing on it so i thought i might use that one but if needs be ill do the weld on it, the adjuster is stupid...

many thanks for your help on this chris

if you can use another use it, bear in mind they are sided, right and left hand threads depending on side

good point, i think i have both sides off the clio, it was being scrapped so one of the lads just pulled the adjusters off it for me, presumably that, along with new cylinders, new handbrake caples and shoes should rectify the rear brake imbalance that had me fail the mot/nct, mind you that was all that failed so i was happy with that
