Cant polish a turd???....yeah what ever!

Not a problem fella. Am looking forward to moving the project on abit now.

Head wise, I wouldn't mind getting a scrap pair to cut up and see where they are best improved. I think, and somebody correct me if I'm wrong, a 3.0l block with fairly moderatly ported heads could acheive the magic figure of 300hp. Now considering that I'm looking at a minimum of 3.4 and a possible 3.5-3.6 by restroking the crankshaft, that leaves me the problem of getting them worked well over enough to produce 340-360 bhp. A tall order considering the car only made about 215hp from the factory.

Bollocks!!! After a fair bit of thinking, a year without a vee, missing out on Silverstone Classic and constanly chasing and waiting for things I've decided to sell up. . . . . . the L7X that is! Max wrote a very good write up on his project car and I don't want to see my project do the same thing. Bare in mind I've now got a little un' and intend to spend abit of wedge on my house, I could see it happening very easily.

My back up plan to the Sadev not turning up was always to fit an Audi box to our trusty old 3.0 24v motor. After seeing a year go by my car did less than 150mile and gaining nothing more than a donor motor, cams and Trophy flywheel, I've decided to not stop at the gearbox. Call it a brash decision if you like but I've now bought a low milage, 2.7 Twin turbo V6 in the shape of an Audi B5 S4 engine. It arrives in a few days time, comes with EVERYTHING to get it running whilst needing nothing more than a good service and clean up. Instead of piss farting about trying to break 400bhp, it will be little more than a stones throw. 500hp is on the cards without even taking the cylinder heads off. This, I know, will dissapoint some but I dont want the car to sit and be shelved. Once its up and running, there nothing to stop me building a balls out OEM engine.

Now your talking Brett :approve:

If your gonna use the Audi ECU, which should actually the same Bosch me 7.5 as the Vee, I can point you in the direction of plenty of info on tweaking it and some tuned maps too ...

Yeah, I'm going to try and keep it running on the stock audi ECU for now as a friend said he might beable to intergrate it in to the original reno wiring loom.

I think that's entirely possible, the ecu connector is likely to be the same and most of the pin outs might also be too :-)

Well 24hrs and it will be here and ready to mate with renaults finest. Think I'll offer it up next weekend so long as I'm able to track down a gearbox. After dropping into VRS Northampton last night, the guys were kind enough to talk about my best options regarding the hole transplant. After measuring plenty of the 'boxes on offer, they have tons of VAG parts to hand, it was decided a 2.0T gearbox from a non quattro A4 would be perfect in terms of ratio's, size and most importantly strength.
The guys down there seem to think that the engine I'm using is utter bomb proof. With little more than a cheap pair of heads and inlet manifold from a non turbo, massive gains are possible especially once a pair of K04 turbos are fitted.

I'm going to try and keep to a plan where I'm fitting and finishing something once a fortnight. At least this way I stand a chance of having areliable 400hp clio by next summer. . . . Fingers crossed!

Well it finaly arrived today and for a used engine its pretty much immaculate with lots of new parts. The turbos spin freely with no signs of abnormal movement, no mayo under the valve train covers and no oil leakage. Even looks to have just received an oil change.

After a quick measure, it looks like the 750mm wide and 450mm long motor fits perfecly in the clio's engine bay leaving the gearbox sitting perfectly inline with the rear most point of the bumper. This suits me fine as I'm intending to use a rear diffuser with it on show. Similar to Gt/lm racecars. Another week or so and the 'box will be here at which point it will be time to mock it all up. To sort drive shafts and fluid lines.

Awesome, can't wait to see it :approve:

Just been mooching over it with Blake. I think the first thing i'll be doing is completly changing the turbo pipework. Using the two intercoolers just won't work as A, I cant fit them in the side pods and B, I just wont get enough air through them to warrent upping the boost pressure. Luckily i can kill two birds with one stone doing this. Using larger RS4 pipework is a common upgrade so making my own ones wider will be an instant hyke in the mid and upper rev range. Especially as it will be charge cooled giving lower intake temp's.

Well the gearbox is ordered and will be here within the next 10 days hopefully. I've gone for the audi 01E 'box which is notoriously strong and has countless upgrades available such as LSD's and dog engagement sets. It might not stick around for too long though as I've got my eye on 2 other transaxles. One is from a 2010 manual A4 which push the driveshafts within a couple inches of the engine. This would be really helpfull as I need the drive shafts as straight as possible. However I'm not sure if it will take the 450lb/ft ill throw at it. The other 'box is an AO2 from an A8. This I know fits well, is strong enough but is geared for 200mph at 6100rpm in 6th. That's great if it makes 600hp but its likely to be anywhere between 400-500.

Once the box and motor are mated together it will be time to make the engine mounts

To be fair, Ive done more in 2 weeks than I have in 2 years lol. Even though I haven't drove or cleaned it for over a year, Ive sort of fell back in love with it now i'm making progress.

Stick with it matey. The end product should be immense. A vee that is as fast as it looks! :) :approve:

p.s. I think we live quite close to eachother now. I'm moved to the outskirts of Bedford. Once I've sorted a MAF sensor fault, if you want, I can give you a run out in the RS4 so you can see what you're letting yourself in for!

That sounds great fella. Would be interesting as initially mine will be slightly less powerfull than yours due to the poxy K03's but the clio will be around 400kg lighter than the audi. Funny you mention the MAF sensor. I need one for mine. Will probably get an RS4 type.
