Cant polish a turd???....yeah what ever!

Thought I might aswell add my vee to this list of bonkers cars as I'll be trying to make it a little nippier soon and on top of that I have a list of things to do before hand.

As most of you will know, I've had a string of bad luck over the first year of my vee ownership so hopefully thats all behind me and I can now get on with enjoying a reliable car for next spring. The car has now seen 60300 miles and after the recent cam belt change, I've decided to work my way through a list of things that need replacing in order for it to feel like its only done 20k. All in all, the cars quite tidy but as with any picky owner, I find fault with it every time I wash it and everytime I take it out on a run. It could be a faint mark on the paintwork or a slight knock from the suspension. What ever it is, it usually irritates me so from now on i'll be trying to sort them from the list below and make it as mint as I can.

Things to do over the next few months....

1. Fit brake disks alround. Will be trying to get 2 piece ones alround if I can

2. Sort a recent gearlinkage problem or possible 3rd gear syncro issue. (new box might be needed)

3. Fully refurbish a set of O.Z split rims im intending on fitting. (GETTING THERE)

4. Check and replace any worn ball joints etc and give it a full geo set up. (DONE)

5. Fit bespoke manifolds and collector pipe. (DRAWN UP JUST AWAITING A FEW BITS)

6. Design and modify a few things on the engine to accept a Trophy inlet manifold and twin throttle body set up i.e, wiring harness, fuel rail, spacer plate/adaptor and airbox. Not sure how much gain to expect but ill be dead chuffed with anything near 260/270 bhp.

7. Modify and flock the engine covers

8. Fit KW Coilovers alround and track down a PH2 anti roll bar. (LOOKING INTO ANOTHER BRAND TO MAKE ME SOME ONE OFFS)

9. Modify the rear bumper (DONE)

10. Respray and venturesheild where needed. (Might be picky a have the whole car resprayed with 10 ton of clear to make it look like glass) (NEARLY DONE)

The way things have been going recently, this list will no doubt probably grow but as the car is for keeps it all has to be done.

I admire your perseverance Brett..! Hope you manage to get it all up to how you want it over the forth coming winter months!

Have you considered this though..?

Well after a debate with a mate, I've decided to take the car officially off the road. Was going to wait till the next meet but i have so much to do to it, I feel its the best time. It's now in the workshop awaiting for both front and back bumpers to be modified and all the suspension rebuilt. Not to mention the fully bespoke manifolds waiting to be made. Hopefully i'll be there most nights pottering away on it so it should come along nicely. I'm also going to strip all the engine covers and interior trim off to replace all the nuts and bolts. Hopefully stopping any rattling and squeeking.

Just a little update. With the help of Deano I've tracked down a couple of parts for my active exhaust set up. They are superb quality and should offer a nice reducion in noise until the taps are opened a little. As I want to keep the QS supersport currently on the car, my first aim is to fabricate a new collector pipe with them fitted. However, I have a feeling there is too little room where the collector pipe usually sits so a one off silencer might be on the cards.

Hope you're not messing up another set of your mothers cushions with those oily things on them Brett!

( technical stuff a little over my head as ever, I get the jist of it though... looking forward to seeing it all completed fella..;) )

Hahaha Its only an old rag in the garage you cheeky sod! lol Its a very very simple lay out but just a little tricky fitting it to the cramped rear end of the vee.

We'll I'll be drawing up a very rough design tonight and will hopefully get it knocked up over the next week or two. Getting more of the valves might be an issue but me and a friend reckon we could turn a few on the lathe and use turbo actuators to open and close the flap. Thats if people show any interest once mine is done.

can i have some please.simon

Sorry Simon but I wouldn't be able to get get anymore valves.

If I could then I would but I had to swallow to get those as it is LOL! I'm sure Brett knows how lucky he is to have them

How are you going to operate them on demand since they will be using manifold vacuum to close?

Oh.....and positive displacement.............i've got the whole thing drawn up in my head already.

Thought of that already mate. First off I need to see if the vacuum at tick over alone opens the actuators fully or whether they will gradually open once the vacuum builds up at higher revs. If its the later, I'll simply turn the butterflies an extra 90* on ther axle so they go from closed to open as opposed to open then closed.

As for the positive displacement....BEHAVE YOURSELF!!!!!!..........

...............Let me get a stronger box fitted ie a Type R box and we'll see whats possible lol

Well its been a manic week and alot has been done. The rear bumper has been Trophied, wheels split and refurbed, seats partialy fitted but need rollcage and harnesses to complete. Have also fitted the rear baulkhead screen but that will be coming back out once I get a full cage. Currently I'm waiting or two things. A half decent Ph2 front bumper to steal the center section from and conformation that i'm getting some one off coilovers....cant wait!!

Ben.....I'm thinking DP Engineering and 8psi [smilie=hungry.gif]
