Clio Campus 172 build

I got my hands on a second pump from Stu at Renomotive tonight. Got home and swapped it out, still no change.

There is still no communication with the ABS system. Suppose my next move is to check the wiring, pin by pin.

So.... as above, no comms to the unit initially. I got really annoyed with the car, convinced myself it was the ABS pump when I should have slowed down and started with the easy stuff.

New ABS pump £25, new tyre for the skoda after hitting a massive effing pothole on route to collect said ABS pump £163.

To find tonight that it was the earth next to the brake fluid reservoir that wasn't connected.....

FS.

Tackled the ABS bleed procedure today. The pedal isn't 100%, but it's not bad. I'll go back round it again I think.

Once it was back on its wheels, I gave it a run up and down the road where I live to make sure wheel speed sensors were happy. And also the squib since that was replaced. Fortunately, no lights on the dash or any related fault codes.

I've still got a SERV light up, but I'm assuming that's related to the 172 Cup seats and the steering wheel that have no airbags.

The ECU has a 99ron Fastchip map on it which seems to be keeping the decat related lights out.

Few little minor jobs left and I'll get an MOT booked. Then over to get the alignment sorted. So close now lol

I've been back round the brakes again and the pedal is defo better but still not 100%.

Also made up a heat shield with the 8v povo heat shield with added nimbus riveted on. I've got a couple of little adjustments to make and it'll be sweet.

MOT this morning, and it was generally a good result. Handbrake performance was on the lower limit, but good enough. Hopefully it'll improve as things bed in.

But it was a PASS! Delighted. Its been just over a year since I bought the Campus and around 19 months since I got the flamer.

As ever, more jobs to do. But with the ease of being able to drive it places.

Congratulations on the pass.

A pass is a pass so no need to bust a gut sorting the niggles, give it a good shake down and you might find the jobs get done while making adjustments elsewhere 👍

Due to the main family bus sh!tting a front spring and currently waiting on Eibachs showing up, I've now got a good excuse to get the Campus on the road...

I've booked alignment for early January and purchased some camber bolts in case things need adjusted. But as a temp measure, I went out last night and roughly aligned the front end with 4 axle stands and a couple of lengths of earth sheathing.

So after some tax and insurance efforts this morning, I took it down the road for some super and a brief shakedown.

Overall, I'm really pleased. No weird noises, strong through the revs, slips into all gears with no crunches etc. It's quite loud.... but sounds sensational at full tilt lol. I'm expecting the sports cat to reduce the noise.

There's obv some niggles to sort out, temp control in the cabin is hot or f@cking hot, I've got the bulkhead heatshield to fit, plastic trim to refit, cavity waxing to get on with. Plenty to keep me busy.

Not a great deal going on with the Campus, which is good I suppose.

There are some funny electrical gremlins showing face which I'm assuming is UCH related. No hazard flash on lock button, passenger door does not lock with lock button, car thinks a door is still open (all tested correct). So aiming to get the UCH repaired/looked at.

I've had to adjust the exhaust after it slipped off the centre hanger. And I need to weld my sports cat in place to hopefully reduce the noise.

Other than that, it's seems to be behaving. Driving around in it, you forget how small they are vs current cars.

Alignment on Wednesday.

Alignment went okay today, my string setup wasn't miles off and the rear beam seems fairly plumb. I went for the recommended camber settings for the time being.

I had camber bolts with me in case there was a need for adjustment. Which there was, and one bolt was fitted to the offside to achieve the 0°49'.

I was a little concerned about the beam after the bother I had fitting the poly bushes, so glad that seems okay.

If anyone reading this is from the central belt, I can't recommend ProGrip enough. They've been in the game a really long time, and really good at what they do.20240110_084155.webp

Not tempted to add a bit more negative camber up front? Interestingly looks like thrust angle has gone up on after measurements. Not miles out but a slight tweak to the rear beam mounts would get that bang on if needs be.

I am tbh, and definitely before i book any track time. When I get a mo, I'll add the other camber bolt and have a play and likely get it back in for adjustment. Sounds daft, but I haven't looked into geometry settings for track use.

My big concern yesterday was to see how it all sat. Especially since a lot of the parts were refurbed/unknown.

Not too sure about the beam in honesty. I was fairly content with the thrust angle 🤔. Would i feel the difference once adjusted? One plus is the beam mount bolts are in really good condition, so any alteration shouldn't be a issue.
