Megane Brake Pad Choice

Was all set to order DS2500 front pads when I read that some people are having problems with them. Someone recommended Pagid RS29 pads for occasional trackdays and everyday driving. Has anyone used these pads, comparison between the 2 pads mentioned?

I have used the ds2500 extensively ( if you can do that with pads ) had zero issues once I bedded them in properly. They do present a bit of dust , but they are not excessivly dusty.

If you arent convinced the DS2500 are for you try the DS1.11

Let me shed some light for you....from experience the DS2500 is an EXCELLENT fast road pad and has a good optimal heat range for optimum performance. They are reasonably priced and wear well, so providing they are for a fast road car with occasional trackday, you cant go wrong..

BUT....(always a but..)

They will only ever be as good as the rest of your brake system will allow them to be AND if they are broken in correctly. If they are just thrown in and hammered from the off, you will end up with deposits on your discs which will in return reduce friction between the pad and disc thus effecting the braking efficency. You MUST put heat cycles into your pads in order to get the best out of them. Also, brake fluid has a HUGE effect on how responsive and effective your brakes opperate.

Basiclly, the pads are just one part of many needed to get the balance right

I am a +1 on the DS2500. I use my car both on the road and track and find them excellent for both. No squeaking, can hammer it on a trackway with no fade, and seem to be lasting the distance.

Ds2500 were more than good enough in @Mart 's meg when i drove it, no issues you could just stand on the brakes. Ill be honest the stock brembo pads are not bad at all, ive not had a fade situation yet, cooked the fluid long before the pads.

Got better fluid in now so shall see what its like in a few weeks at castle combe, last time had no issues breaking from 130mph before avon rise lap after lap:D

That's good to read because I've got some Brembo pads to go on mine. I was going to go for the DS2500 but I'm spending so much on the thing at the moment that £30 for a set of Brembos vs £130 for DS2500 only had one outcome. Especially for somebody who's not exactly hard on brakes :D

I've ordered those HC discs off Amazon, where did you get the £130 price for those DS2500 pads @Billy Pallets

I have RS29 on my Porsche race car. Not as much friction as some pads but my god they can take a beating. Always end up boiling the fluid in that car back out of the reservoir it gets that hot and that is with cooling ducts run from the front fog light positions into guides that run the air straight into the disks. Never ever had pad fade though which is amazing. They are very hard pads though so not sure they are particularly suitable for a road car, likely you will get grooves in yer disks etc.

Main down side on the Pagids is mental price. I will be trying Performance Friction on the Porsche next if I keep that car.

On the Meg I think I will end up running DS1.11 for track and just swap to DS Performance or standard Brembo pads for the road driving, currently running Mintex 1144 which are OK but a bit grabby on the road, will be interesting to see how long they last on track before giving up.

@Ricardo DS1.11's are £163 delivered from JJC Race and Rally - just call them up - say you heard they did discount for Megane owners - you can mention my name if you want - I've used them a couple of times..

If you order before 4pm on Monday you should have it on tuesday - they also stock the Motul RBF600 fluid (1ltr needed) which will be more than up to the job!!! :D

I got a lot of use out of them before they needed replacing, the dust is really bad though, and they squeal on the road at low speeds - but they work much better for cold on the road than OEM pads even..

Up to you mate - I think they are well worth it at 163 vs 130 for the DS2500s

Aaah just seen this, good call. So they won't be tooooo annoying on road as i'll be using more out and about than on track, but obviously need them to perform when I actually do get out there.
