Hi All,

I joined the forum at the start of the year and I did say I was going to start a project thread, which I never did. so here it goes...

I've owned the car since 2009, when it was completely standard. then did the classic wheels, exhaust, suspension, etc. got bored, then decided to turbo it on my drive at my parents house. with the current spec list:

megane 225 head and turbo
F4R block with megane internals
Bigger Injectors
Advanced timing (semi group N)
Adaptronic ECU
Forge intercooler
Mocal oil cooler
Helix 4 paddle clutch
JC5 130 gearbox
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
megane 225 brembos and 300mm discs
Custom exhaust
Lift fuel pump to a swirl pot then Bosch 044
Digi dash
Flocked dashboard
Bucket seats
Half rollcage
172 ph1 body kit
172 ph2 rear bumper

The list goes on.

Had it mapped and rolled:
316bhp @ flywheel
283bhp @ wheels
304 lbft.

I wont bore you with every photo/ update over the years as there is too many. so ill chuck a few photos of whats happening with it at the moment.

thanks,

Rob.

So on the way back from Trax 2018, just coming off the M6 the car filled with smoke, so pulled over and jumped out as I thought it was on fire! Popped the bonnet, couldn’t see any sign of fire/damage/ leaks etc. So jumped back in and drove home which was only 10 minutes away, pulled on the drive and the smoke was pouring out the exhaust and bonnet.

Did a compression test, and was down on cylinder 4! So engine rebuild time!

few months later I decided to actually get the engine out and see what’s happened, head looked fine, valves looked fine, did a leak test old school style. All seemed find.
Then taking a closer look there was a strange marking from where the cam sits? But tht wouldn’t of caused problems.

Anyway, onto the block, looks like the rings failed, slight score mark in cylinder 4

Note the piston looks like it’s had some sort of impact on the edge. No idea how or what has done that unless it was done on assembly like 8 years ago.

Bit of pickup on the cam journal by the looks of it, but not uncommon on the f4r. What cams were fitted? The mark on the piston could be a bit melted, has it gone lean at any point? Bad injector on that cylinder?

They weren't standard cams, I have the part numbers written down somewhere, ill find it and let you know. reason it had different cams in was to run the inlet cam at 8 degrees advanced.

Good shout on the damage piston, AFR gauge always seemed to read pretty good, but could be an injector issue, they have been in there like 8 years.

Ill post another update later to get to where we are currently at :)

So one night I started pricing up parts to rebuild the engine, and then came across a megane 225 engine and ND0 box... so jumped in the Audi after work and went to pick it up. Decided I might aswell fit it as it’s got the 6 speed box so is stronger than the JC5.

rolled the clio out gave it a good clean ready for mocking the engine and box

I’d already started collecting parts like driveshafts/ shifter/ pedal box etc.
After a bit of grinding shes in on two mounts

That’s pretty much update now, after lockdown I was called back into work and have been flat out since, I still need to sort/make a rear dogbone mount for it, get the shifter fitted, shafts fitted and then engine will be pulled again for paint, belts and clutch/flywheel

Or pump - however its closest to the fuel pump that cylinder isnt it ?

Ndo is a good upgrade. Goes in suprisingly easy in a mk2 too.

I was surprised how easy it was too. Just got to mess about and make a dogbone mount to get the engine to sit right.

I got the numbers of the cams which were fitted, no idea what they are from.
