Glad its sorted and lovely and smooth, total cost with labour ?99.99 - just repacked the enclosed cv joing which goes into the rear diff was a bit dry so its nice and lube'd now (ooer - thats what she said)

apparently a mercedes part so probably a similar bearing to the ones Dave gets put on.

Yeah that looks like the one.

It won't go on first time though. Be prepared to employ some brain power :icon_biggrin:

tell me about it...

got it aligned and bolted into the rear diff ...what a f*cking pain in the ass that was, sorted the gearbox end, then bolted it up, took some time and a tiny bit rejigging got there in the end... then went to test the hand brake and ffs it was sticking on the top of the bearing...

so out with a bit of 3mm sheet and made up 2 little spacers works fine now.. lovely

right so while the car was nicely up in the air for the prop to be refitted - I thought I would check out the jacking points... one side has been semi repaired before but has collapsed in. It is pretty solid though so I think it might go through MOT without repair this time round.

Then stupid old me decided to take the o/s skirt off and found this

looks like the front has been repaired, along with the bit of the jacking point already mentioned

ucket.com_albums_kk107_danb21t_UXI_206694_th_00002.webp

and then the centre piece where the B pillar comes down to the lower sill - those who have cut these out before will know where the B pillar meets the sill at the bottom is heavily braced

as you can see not very pretty, but needs a bit of metal slapping over the top

not that I know of...cant say I have checked to be honest, but I did get a pair of tank straps with the car which need putting on once I've sorted this welding so I will keep you posted.

Bugger me !! .... depressing when you find rust like that Dan ... your looks worse than mine was, good to see your gonna sort it out though ;) ... iv seen 21's being scrapped for less ...

You gonna weld it yourself or get somebody to do it for you ? ..

I was gonna ask if the floor where the torsion bar bolts to is ok, but then i rememebered its a Quadra ... lol

DIY all the way, I can stand welding myself but my old man is willing to do it so the task falls upon him

I need a sheet metal folder now though...or some new sills but I'm not going anywhere near Renault!

Silly because if I hadn't thought 'lets have a look behind the skirt' then it probably would have gone through MOT just fine, but now I've gone and put massive holes in the sill you can still seem them with the skirt back on...damn

As you know, Renault are horrendous money for sills !!! ... somebody thats good at bending the sheet metal about should fly through it ..

Yeah, but at least you know once its done then you will have peace of mind knowing its solid behind the skirts ...

Has it spread onto the floor ? ... when the guy who done mine scrapped back the sound deadening on the passenger side it was rotten, yet it looked fine before ..

maybe, I will need to take the front seats out and have a gander under the carpet, hope I've caught it early enough to save the floor!

if not then I might have to break it :icon_sad::icon_sad:

The floor may actually be easier to repair than the sills tbh ...

I remember that Quadra. Has it still got the non standard metal fuel tank?

I just checked and yes it does seem to have a metal fuel tank! I am guessing this is a custom made thing - the standard one on the quadra are plastic like the 2wd surely???

Cut the sills off your other one Dan.

We took a sample piece off of it before it went to the scrap yard but we just ordered up a sheet metal bender/folder and will make up something that will work!

Ok so I decided to cut the sill off and see how the back piece is as this will need to be repaired to attach the new sill to.

The centre brace underneath the B pillar - looking a bit thin

et.com_albums_kk107_danb21t_UXI_206694_th_IMG_0102.webp

Some nice holes through to the carpet uh oh

et.com_albums_kk107_danb21t_UXI_206694_th_IMG_0103.webp

Near the rear - the join for the rear quarter and front sill is at the left of the pic

et.com_albums_kk107_danb21t_UXI_206694_th_IMG_0104.webp

And it has been repaired at the front once before but the remaining sill has become rotten around it so will probably be coming off also

yeah hopefully, aslong as once ive got the carpet up its not too bad but it shouldnt be!
