Clio Big Steve's RB Clio 182 Cup Restoration

Took the Clio 182 to Chris at Beaniesport today for him to fit the new gearbox and a few other parts over the next coming days.

Gave me a loan car whilst he’s got the car, which certainly needs some loving:

But I had to chuckle comparing it to my freshly cleaned and ceramic coated Clio Raider 😁

Will share some pictures from Beaniesport when I get some. 👍👍👍

WOW!!! Didn’t get the opportunity to wring its neck during the rush-hour drive home, but can certainly feel the diff doing it’s thing and the new gearbox feels just so fresh & tight!!

Chris at Beaniesport found a few little things that needed attention following the rebuild (loose bolts & defective earth strap) so I’m absolutely chuffed to bits I took it to him for a look-over before the TR Weekend at Blyton…!!

BRING IT ON!!!

Took the Clio to get the A/C re gassed… connected it up, and the air was p1ssing out the system… went home with tail between legs, and replaced the Pressure switch..

Back to the garage today, and now the system holds pressure, and the system was re-filled with refrigerant:

Now the A/C is working and gassed, but I’m not getting any cold air.. 🥵

Mechanic suspects the Evaporator could be blocked, as it’s the ONLY part of the system that I’ve not replaced in the rebuild:
  • New Condenser
  • New compressor
  • New expansion tank
  • New valve
  • New pipes
But is it that simple? Am I missing something else??

Looking at the car, it appears you get to the Evaporator in the scuttle panel? Anyone know how to get to/change it??

BRING IT ON!!!

Last weekend was the 2022 ClioSport Festival at Blyton Park, and I’d bought @Millie_Bee a full day second driver pass so she could drive both my cars throughout the day.

All suited and booted I sent her out for the Sighting lap:

Before doing the first 15 Minute Novice Seasion, with her little NOVICE X on the back of the car:

She came in super excited about the car and how it drove, so I hooked her up with a 30 minute session with the instructor:

Following that, I couldn’t stop her!! She was really getting into the day, and just LOVING the Clio 182!!
I managed to get out in it for a few laps in the afternoon, and BOY does it drive nicely!!!

I spent more of the day driving my Clio Raider, and a couple of times was following Sarah:

Or should I say, she was following me!! 😁😁

Was an excellent day, and I think I’ve built the Best Clio 182 I could have!!! The combination of Engine mods, Bilstein Coilovers, roll centre kit, and Quaife Differential REALLY work together to create a fantastic package!!

I let @Adey have a drive of the car later in the day:

And when he came back into the paddock, he was just RAVING about the car which really meant a lot to me to hear it from someone else!!

There was no issue with the brakes all day… but I can’t help but think I may fit the old Brembo Calipers off my Clio Raider to strengthen the stopping power a little…?? Problem is, those Calipers need spacers to work with the OE Wheels, which I like. Watch this space if I decide to do anything…??

Thanks for reading!!

If the brakes are fine as is just leave them be @Big Steve - Raider next step up is Ferodo Ds1:11 pads and motul rbf 600 fluid on solid brembo hc or oem discs which are plug and play.

Tradeoff is loads of brake dust and squeak when cold, which is fine for track, but best off with oem pads for road use imo.

Put the Clio away for Winter today in an Outdoor Carcoon.

Parked it next to my house in a little cut-out and knew the Carcoon Bubble would be rubbing against the brickwork, so got myself a cheap Tarpaulin from Screwfix, cut it in half, and hung it on the wall:

Then positioned the Carcoon with the car inside:

And blew it up:

Interesting to see how it fares after a winter, but very impressed with the Carcoon, great that the power unit for the fans also charges the car battery, so it should be all ready to go come 2023!!
