I have heard that Ben at Angleworks has closed down due to not being paid by certain customers? Word is getting around that he was owed thousands for work done on there Vees and they never paid? Is this true? If so then its a sad world as Ben is a lovely guy and has done good work for loads who use this Forum? I am not afraid to post these comments as we have now lost a genuine knowledgable young man who specialised in Clio V6s.

So is the above true?

Bens a nice guy and its a shame he has been forced to close shop regarding any situation or reason. Doesn't matter what type of tradesman you are, its a bloody shit time if your owed money by customers in these hard times.

its propper anoying that. being forced to close thrrough no real reason of your own.

if you cant afford it you shouldn't be having the work done.

i supposedly owed him money for work and its good that he has gone bust because he cant do the fucking work so you lot that are casting accusations need to shut the fuck up until you know what you are talking about and i think you will find that he owes more out than is supposedly owed to him and his demise was all down to his own doing he fucked to many people about once to often and kevin if you have somthing to say to me about it i suggest you ring me

i'm not in agreement with either side here but its good to hear both sides of the story, another good reason for keeping rash comments to youself until you know whats really happened.

Doing tuning work on a car as rare as the Vee is unpredictable, and obviously there are no quick fixes for us to follow. Hence big question on such endeavours is who carries the risk? There's risk on the part of the customer about whether the person doing the work has the skills and ability, and as is clear from Ben's demise there's risk about what happens when expectations aren't met. Personally I'm a believer in sharing the risk!

I've always considered Ben to be somebody with an absolutely love of engines and engine theory, and a depth of experience and skills to match. He was also damn helpful whenever I needed his help back in early ClioSport days.

Either way, two sides to every story. We're a forum of adults and so clearly and politely expressing and discussing those sides is game. Obviously Ray has an opinion but thus far it's only be suggested in his usual inimitable style. I'm not got to put up with any more ranty or sweary rubbish tho', and so if people do that I'll simple get out my large moderator hammer!

any one wanting to know what went on then they can ring me pm with your number and i will ring you back

why so defencive from the start ray? I certainly dont know whats gone on but i think its wrong that you seem to be so pleased about ben going bust,,In my time on this forum what ever happens with your car it seems to never be your fault always someone else to blame and slag off
Same shit different day!!
Surely you must be running out of people to piss off by now

I'M HONESTLY QUITE SICK OF THIS TYPE OF LANGAUGE AND ATTITUDE ON WHAT WAS A FREINDLY FORUM AT ONE TIME. SORRY RAY, BUT ITS JUST BEEN POST AFTER POST AFTER THREAD AND THE LAST ONE WAS LOCKED. IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING ALAYS NEGATIVE TO SAY ABOUT TOPICS PLEASE EITHER PM OR KEEP THEM TO YOURSELF.

I can confirm Ben has closed down AWT which was a bit of a shock as my vee has had to come home. It was nicely hibernating up there alongside Lucy's vee. I did pay for my thermostat before anyone asks. Now my vee does 30+mpg compared to 25mpg. All I can say is Ben in my dealings with him has always done what I have asked for and not just on my vee but other Renaults. He is a thoroughly nice chap and a credit to himself. He is capable of producing a 298bhp vee in conjunction with a remap from Matt at TDF. The holy grail as a vee owner I looked for. Shame it wont happen now nevertheless all the best to Ben and Lucy for their future.

So in answer to the thread title question yes. All other matters are presumably private affairs.

Sad to hear Ben's given up.

I can tell Ray's not a happy bunny, but he seems to be the only one on the forum. [smilie=icon_exclaim.gif]

Me all I can say is I found Ben a very nice guy who did my belts at a great price.

Maybe his willingness to help out was part of his ultimate downfall, it's no good being too nice in business. A guy I used to deal with when I had a 6R4 worked the same way, far too nice for his own good and offered to help out everybody, what happened, he lost the company, used to let you pay NEXT TIME !

I know he built one rally engine at the cost of £30K it lasted 22 miles before throwing a rod out the sump, its what happens when you push a engine to the limit, i think that's what pushed him out of business in the end.

Least I hope Ben can keep sane over the traumatic loss of his company. I Know, I've been there too, it's bloody hard to get up and dust yourself off and start again.

Me I wish him luck and will miss the option to use services to keep my V6 going.

If he only upset one owner while in business he did well as some of my local garages seem happy to piss off customers very week, hence the reason I used Ben. [smilie=thanks.gif] BEN

I think the replies answer my question. And Ray, I didnt actually know it was you. I only heard on the grape vine that Ben had shut up shop after not being paid. Now I know why.

Its a shame really.

i seam to be blamed for bens failure ben shut up shop because he owed money i was not the cause of that , ben pissed of far to many people in the trade and customers EVERY SINGLE COMENT ON HERE HAS BEEN DIRECTED AT ME SUGGESTING IN VARING DEGREES THAT I SOME HOW WAS THE REASON HIS COMPANY GOING BUST NOT SO last night i offered to every one the chance if they felt so strong about this to call me if they want to know what went on between me and ben NO ONE SO FAR HAS TAKEN ME UP ON IT , ben in his demise is now looked upon as a saint ? sorry but hes the thing nightmares are made off

Hi Ray

Re read my post don’t see any blame in it that I directed towards you, but hey if you want to twist my words help yourself.

You had issues with him and I did not. You would not of used him again but I would of, that’s just how it is.

I agree with you it’s unlikely that one issue with a customer would close a company. I know he had downsized dramatically in the past so maybe his closure was inevitable

Steve

A sad time indeed for one of our most highly rated and greatly respected specialists. He was there to support our very small club, and I remain grateful to him.

Numbers speak volumes, hence AngelWorks is at the top of our club dealer board.

Like Andy said above, for many years I've also known and chatted with Ben, admired the incredible skills he obviously has, although as always I didn't understand most of it. His many satisfied customers was the proof behind the technical chat. Ben is aware that I still kick myself for going to the wrong unit on Kimbo trading estate. :(

I wish Ben and Lucy all the best with the future.

Sad to see Ben have to close, all dealings i had with the guy were good, when it comes to tuning any car there are risks and they get bigger the more you push, I have no problem with people aiming for better performance but dont moan if it goes pop
