5 GT Turbo R5 GT Turbo: needing a push……..in the right direction.

Seems complete as a car which is a good start, but you're looking at a full body resto there. Thats a big commitment, cash and time. If you can strip it and rebuild it yourself and only the bodyshell welding and paint is outsourced you'll get it in under £10k but do not underestimate just how much work that is and how much space you need to do it - a double garage at least.

As that stands thats an ideal resto project on a complete car that an enthusiast with money to burn would snap up, I bet that will fetch £3-4k as it sits. Have a good think.

I can attest to that @DaveL485. My 5 didn’t seem too bad, it was drivable. Once I got into it there was rust on top of rust! Ive been quite committed to my resto and have spent 100’s of hrs over the last 2 years to get it where it is now! Im trying to do as much of it as I can myself, but I reckon it has still cost me at least £5k with the dipping, extra tools and equipment!
I wouldn’t change it for the world though, it’s therapy for me, my own space where I get to save one of my favourite cars of all time, learn new skills - welding, painting, and mechanics which I have never done before, and of course there is being in touch with like minded lunatics through this forum!
The beauty of it is, if you have the space and determination it can take you as long as you need it to - no rush!
If not, dont let it sit there and ‘rust in piece’ (can’t remember where I heard that!) let someone else restore it (not break it) maybe you could cut a deal with them for first refusal to buy it back at a later date! Good luck with whatever you decide!

Have to say it’s a full rebuild. Not the simplest of tasks. I’d consider what @Turbell said. Maybe pass it on and buy something you could enjoy so not all is lost. A 5 came up for sale the other day having had an extensive rebuild for around £17/20k maybe sell this one on and put it towards buying a useable one which will be cheaper in the long run. You’ll be surprised what people will pay for an original example.

The other issue is parts prices now. Saw grills going for £400 each!! Which is getting a bit ridiculous but nothings available new.

I’ve allowed 5 years for my 5 project which is a bit different but I have the skills to do it. It’s time and Money I have an issue with.
