Why would you need to use anyhting other than the B18 flywheel? (for context)Stoopid question time
Does anyone know, what Renault flywheels can be used with the B18FT lump from the Volvo 400-series...?
Clio 16V/172?
Why would you need to use anyhting other than the B18 flywheel? (for context)
@James5 might have one from the B18 he took out of the rear engine rwd 5 that ended up with @Duncan GrierYou are probably right matey but it wasn't so much the benefit I would get out of rather the hassle of sourcing a standard B18 wheel. I thought I may as well get a decent flywheel & clutch to go on. AFAIK the car has a 60-2 pattern, although it has just had an engine swap (like for like although the replacement engine was from a '92 440)

That B18ft engine I gave away for parts as I had a local friend whom bent a rod in his R5 GTT B18ft conversion so I gave it to him for donor parts.
No B18ft flywheels but the early B18ft models are 200mm and use same crank bolt fitment as the F7p 200mm to which I have 2 x flywheels spareyou can then use the Volvo clutch, F7p clutch or GTT clutch which at the end of the day the valeo green box is a Volvo clutch
The later model B18ft's use the 215mm flywheel to which I have a 182 / F4r 215mm flywheel that will also fit the b18ft, f7p engines (I use the F4r one on my F7pt setup) if your going standalone the F4r is 60-2 flywheel pattern and allow wasted spark and std sensor setup.
But saying that the Adaptronic will allow you to run the b18 or F7p 200mm flywheel with dizzy cap but not wasted setup. (Now I say the above I think it's only the newer select range of ECU's that will run on the original 200mm fly with the 40-2-2 fly pattern).
The downside to posting a flywheel is the weight of them pretty heavy. (I am hoping to be at pod on Saturday if you are there I can bring with)
Looking at what James has said i'd be tempted by the 60-2 F4R flywheel with Wasted Spark Adaptronic...
Scoffs website does have the answer for those with the 200mm fly's that the 420d select models and above can use the std 40-2-2 flys

yes the ECU will happily work on a 60-2.That is the kit I have, so seems to say that a trigger wheel is only needed for a wasted spark set up for a 44 tooth flywheel.

I might have a 60 tooth B18ft flywheel spare the garage. I have got a clio 172 helix organic clutch on mine and works fine.
I'll have a look tomorrow for you. i'm sure the flywheel is still on the old f*cked engine as i put the turbo pistons in a n/a block and used the n/a cam too in the original turbo head. its got the n/a throttle body too as its bigger. ( SE ) it think it was... Higher lift on the cam.
