AUX Upgrade

Hello Everyone,

With the cats emptied in my car (previous owner not me :( ), the car is a bit too loud for my girlfriend. I am an amateur when it comes to modifying/ making changes in cars, so I apologize in advance if the question has a simple answer. Here goes: What is the easiest/ best/ simplest way to add an AUX cable out to the existing system in my 255? Basically just want to listen to music from my phone as I burnt several CD's that the CD player is not reading well.

Thanks!

Hi Sultan,
I believe if you pull the unit out to access the wiring; you can hook up an aux cable in lieu of the CD player.
I haven't used my CD player in the 10 years that I've owned my Vee - the engine soundtrack is too good!

^^^ yupppp order one of them, simple to install too. Iirc you'll need to disconnect the cd multi changer though. Then activate the aux option on your radio.

The standard CD player will only read audio CDs and not MP3/WMA. I use rewritable CDs and work fine, but as Kett says the best soundtrack comes from behind you..

Apparently this is what you need.

It is nice and cheap so give it a go.

Interesting ... So this cable just needs plugging to the connector for the the CD charger?

Yup, I done it in my 182, once i get home i'll see if i can grab a photo of it.

Hey Everyone,

Unfortunately, did not work :( the connector of the AUX cable I was advised on buying does not fit in any of the ports of the stereo unit.

Looks like the uploading the photo worked.

The green connector is the one I was advised on buying and the yellow one is how I'm assuming the connector head should look to fit into the stereo unit. [album]15206[/album]

Sultan, I have just bought exactly the cable you did because I saw this thread. What you need to do is remove the yellow cable and slide the green connector into the yellow connector - side on side.

Only then will you be able to fit it into the available space.

The only issue I am having with mine is the it only appears to be producing sound from the left front speaker!

Another tip is that because the cable can't be squeezed along the side of the head unit and brought out from the front I have routed mine down so that it pops out under the large plastic tray containing the coin tray and cigarette lighter. I then have it routed up through the coin tray to my phone holder. The cleanest way I found of doing it!

Hi James,

Yes the yellow one looks like it's the right one. Thank you!

Hi OGDC,

Thanks for your input and sorry you had to go through it as well! I didn't get the "slide the green
connector into the yellow connector - side on side" part. Can you please elaborate further?

Was wondering what the best way to do that was! Can you please post pics of it?

Thank you.

I didn't think you would, it is very difficult to explain how to do it!

Remove both the yellow and the green from their 'ports' and hold them next to each other side by side as if you were about to plug them in at the same time. You will then see that you can actually slide the green bit into the yellow bit making it into 1 large plug. Then it will fit!

I will be removing mine again soon as I don't have a good connection - no sound except for 1 speaker so I'll take some pictures for you.

Hi OGDC,

Thanks for the explanation. Did you have a chance to take pictures of your installation of the AUX cord by any chance?

Thanks.

Hi everyone,

So I got the AUX with the right connector head (thank you James :)) and it fit right in (in place of the green connector head). The next step is getting music from my phone playing from the car's speakers. Hooked my phone up but can't get music from my phone to play on the speakers. Any advice on what I need to do next would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

 my issue is how to get the AUX selected as the source since we only have radio and CD as sources. How do I tell the system to play music from the AUX?

Thanks.
