alarm 'bips' - how many should there be and when?

Hello,

Quick question on the V6 alarm - when i lock the car, sometimes it beeps 3 times, and other times it doesn't beep at all. When I locked it today, it beeped 4 times. I've had a look in the alarm manual which is pretty vague, and said the 3 beeps is to do with the ultrasonic sensitivity or something.

Am I correct in presuming that it should always beep 3 times when it's locked? And if so, what's going on with mine?

Thought i'd ask here as people on here are most probably more knowledgable than the local renault dealer!! ;)

Thanks,

Em :)

Em, it should never beep when locked! The beeps signify that there is a problem of some sort. I seem to recall there being a load of 182 drivers who had similar problems with their alarms.

If it beeps 3 times when locking it means a feed is still going through the unit (ie getting out and locking too quickly). If this continues then it is an inherent fault and needs replacing.
Beeps when you unlock mean the alarm has activated whilst you've been away from the car.

Try slowing down how quickly you jump out of the car and set the alarm (I have only managed to get mine to this once)

yep..,mine beeps if I basically click the fob to lock it..as the door is literally just shutting

wait a second or 2 before locking :)

Mine don't bleep?

Getting a Clifford installed in the future when I have $$$ though.

Why are you fitting a Clifford?

The reno 1 is CAT 1 and also trackered if yours is enabled.

:s

I know people who have had cliffords and still do..

and I used to have a fully bells and whistles clifford..

they do nothing else but go off all the time..very very frustrating!!

nothing wrong with the oem alarm dude! :)

Agree with you here Colin.

I fitted the top of the range clifford 600 with all the extras on my scooby.

It use to drive me round the bend, i had a long list of problems and was
always going back and forward to the fitters.

IMHO it was the biggest waste of money ever, if you want an alarm get
the cheapest cat 1 alarm available and you shouldnt be too disappointed. :approve:

glad the general opinion is the same!!

i had the 600 too with dual zone prox sensors and remote start (yep,..must have used that all of 3 times) lol :s

It got to the stage I didnt want to stay at claires house..cause it would without fail go off at some point through the night..very very embarrasing!

her brother now has a clifford on his corsa..and last weekend it went off twice at 4am...arrgrhhhrhrhhahaha! [smilie=evil.gif]

Same as above really, this happens generally when you lock the car too quickly, although it happened to me once when I left the passenger window slightly down when I got out of it outside the house and switched the alarm on.

You need to give it a couple of seconds before arming the alarm once you have shut the doors.

Could it not be the disarmed pressure sensors. If you turn the inginition off-on-off then is disarms the interior pressure and i'm sure this gives 3 plips on locking....

Yup ggod point also :approve:

clifford are sh1t alarms now since it was sold to another company years ago who now use substandard components......

So is everyone saying that the alarm should bip when I unlock it?

I'll try waiting a few seconds and then locking it and hope the bips go away!!

No Emma.... :s

It shouldn't beep at all....if it does, you're being too quick once you have shut your doors.....the beeps happen to tell you that there has been an issue with the arming process - you're going through the process too quickly - you need to wait a couple of seconds....
