Advice needed re. reducing noise

My gf says my v6 is way too noisy so I can't rev the car much when she's in it. She doesn't mind the musical pops & sort of whuffling growl sounds at low revs but throws a rev limiting hissy fit whenever I put my foot down.

The question is, what should I remove first (gf excluded!) given that I have a full decat Janspeed system and pipercross induction? I have all the original gear but want to keep the inevitable power loss at a minimum.

My thinking is to get the original manifold & cat back on but can't quite figure if the noise is induction or exhaust given that it's such a racket on full throttle over 3k.

Advice welcome!

Give her some headphones,

Personally id tell her to shut up. Its your car.

Yeah - would not want to become "Hen Pecked" - Kiwi????
:D

Just get a new bird - what restrictions will there be next - no speeding???? no fun ????? No???

Thin end of the wedge mate!

No, no, no, no, no. Start changing the car to suit the g/f and it will never end  My g/f complains about similar with my vee and FRS and i just tell her if she doesnt like it she can pay for a taxi

The exhaust with decats is responsible for the noise.
You'll need to put the original system back as a whole....the backbox has a different fitment so you can't use that with the original pipes....

Any power gains you have will have come from the exhaust, not the induction......

Hopefully she'll learn to accept it as it is.

Thanks TRW1, i'm assuming you mean that the Janspeed backbox isn't compatible with the catback pipes which is a bit of a surprise to me as i thought all the generally available backboxes would fit original pipes.

I guess I need to have a chat with the local motorsport outfit who did the work. Just noticed now that a later receipt from them says "remove cat cores, build larger secondary pipes from extracor flanges to muffler". Never heard of cat cores being removed before....but the last owner was a surgeon!!

Put a sock in it, either the gf, or the exhaust. Preferable in this order.

My wife dislikes the high rev sounds too, but I hate her high squeeking sounds when I corner, so it's in balance this way.

I'd recommend earplugs definately - either that or trade the girlfriend in :!: :!: :!:

Show her the replies you've got on here - that may shut her up

It must be pretty loud though if there are no cats. Look at how many people on here went for the QS OMG back box and then sold it on as it was too loud. Steve had it with decats and burst an ear drum.

My car seems too loud sometimes with just the standard QS if I am coming back from somewhere and want to just listen to CDs... although there is no way I'm taking it off as the other 90% of time I love it. The car with the standard exhaust is a let down.

Janspeed full system was just that...full system, and as such was not compatible with existing Renault system or aftermarket boxes designed to fit the Renault system.
I have it on mine (decat).
Are you sure yours was a complete system? Why the need to remove cat cores if it was available without cats in the first place? Maybe he bought the version with sports cats and later wanted them removed????
Mine is not as loud as with previous system...The Janspeed bores are smaller than original Renault ones but it is freer flowing which is where the extra power would be found. I used to have Renault pipes, decatted, with Quicksilver backbox....that's about as loud as you can get I think.

gf now a lot quieter than the car.....purchase of Chanel probably helped!!

my girlf never complains about my filter and "OMG"

sometimes comments about it being very boomy...but...it is! othertimes..she actually says "that sounds amazing" :)

cant complain at that! :)
