Clio Adey's Clio 172 Turbo (project 250bhp per tonne)

So yet another project from the house of Endor. Mid last week @Haz posted on another thread that Scoff at EFI Parts had a clio 172 turbo needing some work potentially available. Not being one to miss an oppertunity i fired Scoff an email as soon as i saw the post and over the afternoon sorted out a deal. It needed a sensor change and map tweak before it could be let go so but scoff pulled a late one the following night to get it done. 2 days from the initial email i was on a train bound for Runcorn. I got to Efi parts to be greeted by Scoff and the car. We had a catchup and chat followed by a cup of tea and then i was off. Any way it got me home fine though with the heaters and stereo not working it was a long drive especially when getting stuck in traffic.

I will update as i go along fixing things, the car is to be treated as a running project. It was basically thrown together to be a test bed for stock ecu calibrations and thus was put together to do a job rather than be nice to look at, function over form and all that. It has performed very well doing so running a remaped stock ecu with Efi Parts in house designed and built box of tricks that allow the ecu to work fine with boost pressure and bigger injectors. Some of the car is a little erm.... rough but it does the job (y)

So these are the pics i was sent from Scoff

In the pictures she doesnt look bad, and with a clean to take off the grime and green mould im sure she will shine but a list of issues were noted ready for some rework on the journey home plus a few Scoff had pointed out though to be honest they amount to a few hours work.
The return Fuel line needs replacing as the outer has started to crack.
Exhaust has dropped and has a down sweep welded on so needs tiding up
Air filter setup needed
Speedo wobbles
Stereo needs unlocking
Heater resistor failed
Turbo has lost a nut
Exhaust smashing on subframe
Then full service and probably replace the brakes all round.

Not too much work, pus i will probably remove the interior when i get chance for more free power to weight horsepower. The BC racing coilovers off the Twingo will also be fitted to the Clio once some new hub sections arrive from BC Racing and ill chuck the OZ F1's on with the AD08R tyres

So first job i wanted to sort was the fuel line. Luckily for me @Prab has a ph1 clio being stripped about 15min from me for his own 11 turbo to F4r project so a quick jaunt down to pull the lines off was in order. Popped down and pulled them off, had to cut one but no issue with a little joint in it. I took him out for a quick ride to show him the car and we got a few meters down the road and POP, car has no go, and started to stink of fuel...... we could see the gauge dropping so darted off the road and coasted the car through some big puddles to try and make sure the car was wet.......

First thought was the fuel line that was showing some age had let go but strangely it wasnt, the push fit connector on the oem line had decided to come off after about 150miles of me driving it.

It emptied about quarter of a tank of fuel into the bay in less than 30 seconds! Anyway pushed it back on and put a cable tie around it to make sure it couldn't lift off again.

Right so I got the car up on a jack and replaced the upper engine mount with a vibratechnics item to try and stop the exhaust hitting the subframe, it has helped alot but still needs some adjustment. I also removed the diy return line and fitted the OEM ph1 line in its place. Its a plastic/nylon type pipe so shouldnt fall apart like the rubber hose that was there. There is about 4 inches of fresh High Pressure line on ther that i used to join the fuel line where i cut it for removal but its now minimal vs the whole lenght of the car. And whats was really nice is Renault had left the clips in place to take it so its nice factory looking fit.

The old hose, was like this front to back, its only on the outer theres and issue and the return line isnt under pressure. On inspection the inner was perfect, but still unsightly

And in the air for the rest of the line fitting.

and parked up against the Twingo

Im also not too big a fan of the pulley setup on the AC version clios, something in mine has gone a little noisy so i am on the hunt for a clio cup alternator setup to delete it all and save some weight. If anyone has the setup available i could be interested (y)

On Monday i plan to pop down to forge motorsport to mock up an air filter setup. Once thats in place i will feel a little better about kicking her a bit. Forgot to mention the power she put down on the dyno, 227.6lbft and 236.1bhp with a nice cold intercooler. So with some weight stripped out she will be very sprightly. As is with a little poke she can pull away from a revo tuned 15 plate focus ST and had no issue hanging off the back of a Focus RS. Not bad atall in my eyes (y)

OK got some 2118 speedlines on the way now.... should fare a little better than the cheese like f1's and a cup alternator setup. Win.

Great stuff, well not the fuel line but nice to see someone making use of it. Look forward to seeing progress

Nice project. What is going on with that tailpipe...last time I saw something like that was on my Da's Montego Countryman TD

The exhaust had the tip cut off and a down swept welded on so they didn't need to cut the bumper. Ended up staying like it as it caused no issues. I'll be fitting new mounts to raise it up and then I'll cut it back to keep it stealth (y)

A mate of mine makes a delete kit... Have asked for a price...

Exactly the same happened to me when in my boosted clio , except I was in a petrol station ..

Legend cheers. Ping me your PayPal and how much postage is (y)
It's a basic setup I'll list what's on it later on but could be done on the cheap with ease especially now scoff can adapt the stock ecu for boost pressure
