Clio Adeys cheap DCI Daily

5 hours 10min later, it's all back together, yay! But the gasket that was there is toast from blowing, I'll get one on order if they are cheap and if it blows. I cleaned everything up best I could and put some sealant on there but the main fix is done (hopefully) Its a pain to change but i can probably do the gasket in 1.5 hours so not a big issue like it was. Time to sort out the other niggles as I find them. I did pull the radio for the code so now the stereo is working again. Might give it a clean tomorrow, chuffed with the main issue being fixed on the bargain banger.

Will be fine at that, aslong as its somewhere near. I would obliterate the rest of the old stud out and get it central 😆

no chance of getting on it properly without fully removing the engine I dont think. tapped holes a good one, bites up nice and tight, part of the old stud is now my new thread so its staying put lol.

Just been outside to check it over, still a slight blow but kind of expected with having no crush gasket in there. I looked for ages trying to find the part number and ended up finding it in the parts look up on our site, nice (y) ordered and on the way.

Ill give it a clean hopefully tomorrow and then a quick once over to see if there's anything i can spot before sorting an mot, that said it was due but has now had an extension due to the virus so no rush and its not like i can just pop it down tot a local mot center as i think they are all closed.

Gave it a quick rinse over today, more to get the kids out of the house. The paint is super swirly anyway so no point going nuts. Found one fog light is swinging in the air, the bumper has had a knock there too and is split. Vacuumed out the inside and found 39p in loose change. Nice and nasty, gave everything a wipe down and it's not too bad in there now. Itll do for a super cheap car.
Cost to date
£250 car
including £30 of diesel
and 0.39p in change

minus the gasket I've ordered at £10

Totals at £229.61 😁

The gasket arrived this morning so I thought I'd give it a quick crack at lunch time to get it fitted. Whipped the parts off and noticed that even though I'd clocked up less than a mile on the test drive last time I refitted everything there was a load more soot, expected if it was blowing from the lack of gasket but it was from the area where the pipe had been repaired previously. Gave things a wipe over and inspection and found a hole in the repaired pipe...... FFS. I really couldn't be bothered to pull this apart again, it cuts my arms right up, I also said i wouldnt modify it, feck it, quick egr block off to get rid of the damaged part. I can get a replacement but I'm being super cheap with it. Easy job really, find a peice of mild plate off the floor, rough out the correct shape, bosh some holes in it. job jobbed 👍🏻there was also a block off plate in the boot for the end of the egr cooler which in assume a mate fitted trying to sort it in the past. No more blow (touches wood) pulls nice and clean if you plant it. I think there might be another issue as it sounds noisy but then it is a diesel? I'll get a video when I next test drive it. As the egr is effectively still connected I'm going to hope it doesn't throw a code. Need to find an engine cover too and then you would be none the wiser. Not sure if it has to be there for the mot these days?

Ive just chucked the egr and cooler in the bin off the kangoo engine yesterday if you need one for postage?

Different by the looks of it mate, welcome to it if you can make use of it, as only going in the bin. Scrapped the head and associated bits, bottom end is going this week.20200427_160811.webp

Yeah I'll take it man cheers, I saw a parts diagram with a similar one on it. I think theres 3 different setups but the fitment is similar, well visually.

I blocked the egr and some other daft stuff on a dci for a kangoo. From what I read at the time you need to leave the valve plugged in or it just goes into limp mode.
And in that case atleast you couldn’t have the egr removed from the ecu, for what reason I can’t mind.

good stuff, the valve itself is still in place and active, would be a pain to block that off tbh but the pipe work from the exhaust manifold to the inlet is now completely separated and sealed.

Ive not even moved the car in a month, one of the tires looks a little low. I did fit some rear speakers in it though. Looks like they were originally an option, all the wiring was there but no speakers. In there for some tunes on the commute when i finally get back to work. I did have a roue around for some wiring to add cruise control, the clutch and brake switches are in place but not the cruise switch wiring. Its there on some cars and not on others, same as the mk2 clio, twingo and the megs. Im wondering if its just a case of needing the cabin side loom adding as cruise control would be a nice touch. Another one to sort when the scrap yards open back up. Also cheers to @Brigsy for sending me his spare EGR pipework, it should swap back on once i get back in there and remove the blanking plate (y)

cost to date £229.61 + £16.34 for some JVC speakers = £245.95

My front rad support looks very ropey so that will need sorting before it gets a fresh mot, i need to get it in the air and see if it can be patched over quickly or requires a new support, they seem to be £70ish new so might just grab one but then its kind of against the cheapness of the car. Will see once i take a look at how bad it is.
