ABS Fault

Help!!
My phase 1 turbo needs an MOT but typically just as its booked in the ABS light has come on.
It occaisonaly came on after 5 miles or so but always went off when the car was re-started. Now it comes on with the engine running but before even starting to move. Please where do I start?

have you taken the wheels off and checked the hubs - inspecting the ABS target teeth to check that they are not corroded? this is your first task.

I would suggest getting some Hammerite Kurust and painting this onto the entire ring (ooer) and leaving it to convert the rust.

Hi
When the abs light comes on only when moving its worn target ring, but if the light doesn't even go out ofter starting then its 1 of the sensors of the abs ecu. Having said that, your hand brake light isn't on all the time aswell is it?

Andy

Tnahks for the reply, as you said it comes on before the car has even started moving. The hand brake light does go out so its the abs somewhere.
I have cleaned the abs rings front and back just a little while ago and if it was only that I would get away with the MOT. This second fault has happened "just like that". Mind you the car was stood for 4 weeks throughout the last cold spell, could that have started somthing off?

any chance you have a spare abs computer, my phase 1 had stood for 9 years before I decided to restore it and I had the same problem. Picked up a second ABS computer to test with and worked fine after that.
I think the ABS will not initialise if a pick up is damaged as well

I will have to look for one. I have an engine ecu but not an abs one. Its not often I get any trouble with the car to be fair. its our daily driver and regular use seems to keep it ok - normally!!

Search the forums, i've written the same ****e that many times i'll kill myself if I have to do it again....:icon_eek:

Can you believe it!!!

I went to start work on fault finding the ABS and...... the light has gone out.

Well at least it has saved a job, thanks for your help
