A bit stumped

As per oter thread, starter packed up.

Got a replacement from scott. Have fitted it. Went for a restart today and ....nothing....

There are only 2 wires so i cant have not connected anything. Bit perplexed. Not even getting a click. Turn the key and nothing happens, absolutely nothing.....

Battery is fully charged. I guess i need to get it in the air again and check there is 12 v at the starter when i turn key to starter setting....

Anyone got any suggestions of what else to look at whilst i am there.....

I think you should have 12 volt at the main cable all the time, it's connected directly to the battery then 12 volt at the smaller terminal when the key is turned to start.
I'm guessing you disconnected the battery before you removed the starter otherwise you may have blown the main fuse.

checked the fuses. None blown. I had charged the battery overnight and at least this morning got a click from the solenoid.....but still not action from the starter..... could the starter be jammed?

The starter could have got jammed fitting it, try turning the engine over by hand and it its free its possibly a jammed starter, this can be just that its in a position where it does not get full contact. If you then check the 12v to the main terminal has at least 12.5v short the small terminal to the big cable to see if there is life. some of the replacement starters do have two large threaded terminals, make sure you have connected to the correct one.

managed to get a wire looped onto the main teminal of the starter - 12.91 volts so there is power.

Have drained the ik again so i can remove the oil filter and get to the smaller terminal. I will then try the shorting trick between the 2 starter terminals - i only have 2 terminals so no chance of the connections being wrong.... will carry on later this eevning and tomorrow..

I presume that if i short circuit the 2 starter terminals, if the starter is o it will spin over even if i dont have the key turned to start position

If you short the starter terminals the motor should turn over, dont go mad with the oil filter off or you will get covered, also Do Not hold the starter in the engaged position more than a couple of seconds without the load of the engine on it, the windings of the motor are such that it will run away or overspeed and wreck the new starter. (due to the fact that there is no eddy current braking on a starter com).

thanks everyone - all working. Was a bad earth. Cleaned up the earth connection for the engine and started first time!
