5 GT Turbo standard Cam... worn or not?

Hi everyone.

I would like to ask... how worn would the orginal camshaft be on a 'increased boost' 5 after 100k miles? I'm having the engine rebuilt...but want to keep the original cam profile.. will the original cam lobes we worn and losing power/performance after 100k miles? and would I notice by changing it for a new standard cam due to wear after this amount of wear after 20 years of its life!

If a new one would be wise... where can i get a new one thats standard?

Thanks.

increwased boost will have no effect on cam wear, one could even argue that a mega boost application will wear the camshaft less.

The issue is mileage and treatment of the engine. Chances are it will have some wear as its not a sympathetic valvetrain.

Only way to tell is strip it and check it but tbh if its gettign a proper job just get another cam and just gor a for a mild road one rather than a new renault one.

Thanks for this info... any help with where to get a mild road cam? I already have a new Piper 285 but i decided against that as i wont be racing on the roads.. and a standard cam will do me. I only see high performace cams sold by tuners tho..no mild versions.

Cheers.

someone has got to do a mild road one.

a standard cam will cost silly money thats the main issue. Renault charge a fortune for cams and valve train parts.

liek I said get it checked out and see how worn it is

Okay ...will do... can it be re-machined? I'll see how it goes...cheers.

it can be but I don't recomend in as it means the buckets have to protude further out increasing wear on them and indeed the block.
