24th Nov UPDATE - new tracker fitted to replace Original Tracker no longer supported by Trackstar

I did read somewhere in the T&Cs that an email or letter would, once sent or posted be deemed to have been received.....or something along those lines

Yes if it is sent in the post that is all they need to do.
But they have stupidly tried to mislead me that they sent the letter on 9th Dec but the address is my new one so clearly the letter was NOT produced last year.

I certainly didn’t receive a letter and haven’t moved house during my 14 years of ‘lifetime membership’.

As a lifetimer, Ed deal of forking out for new hardware with continued lifetime membership makes more sense. That said, the newer hardware doesn’t seem to do anything more than the old one did...?

Kett I think that would stand up in Court even if they have changed the name from Trackstar - which of course would be their get out

i would say that was pretty much sewn up, the Lifetime wording does come with an asterisk/ caveat but there is no length of time mentioned.
In my humble opinion the very few members that have carried over with this legacy membership should be offered the new equipment free of charge with continuation of their membership. I am sure the subscription to this would be so low their coffers would bear the cost!
They aught to be more careful of what they offer.
I certainly would not entertain any of their "Lifetime " deals.

I've written to both Renault and the RAC pointing out that as it was a product clearly endorsed by them at the time and as a long standing member of the RAC and owner of Renault vehicles what is their view on the situation and how do they think it should be resolved.

Thank you for your recent contact to Renault UK.

I understand that you have concern in regards to a subscription for lifetime cover by TrackStar purchased alongside your Renault Clio and you are looking to see if we can assist in understanding the terms and conditions of this.

Please can you provide any evidence in response to this email of paperwork that you received at the time of purchase in regards to the TrackStar cover, so that we can look into this matter for you and offer our support and advice.

Latest from Renault :-

"To clarify, RAC Trackstar are a separate company to Renault UK, offering a service that we supported customers with a deal on. We are not in partnership with this company any longer, however your Trackstar service may have moved over to Trafficmaster Trackstar, please find their website link and contact details here: https://www.vehicletrackingtech.co.uk/t ... aster.html
They are available via the following telephone number: 01274 733 633 , should you wish to discuss your existing cover and your options moving forward, you will need to take this matter to Trafficmaster Trackstar as we are not currently affiliated with this company."

I then pointed out :-
Bearing in mind your reply, stating that you 'are not in partnership with this company any longer' and 'are not currently affiliated to the Company' it would seem that you were at the time of my taking up the 'lifetime offer'.

Thier reply :-

"Thank you for your recent contact to Renault UK.
Please refer to my email dated 23rd June, for our view and your next steps moving forward.
To confirm, we are not in partnership with this company any longer, however your Trackstar service may have moved over to Trafficmaster Trackstar, please find their website link and contact details here: https://www.vehicletrackingtech.co.uk/t ... aster.html
Your lifetime membership for Trackstar is not with Renault UK and we have not created this product, we have endorsed a deal from this company 17 years ago however, we no longer endorse this deal. Renault endorsements change periodically as we continue to support our customers with a wide range of deals and offers. Whilst we supported Trackstar at the time and offered our customer's their service, the terms and conditions of the service lie with Trackstar. To speak with Trackstar who are now known as Trafficmaster Trackstar about your lifetime membership provided by their company, please find their details above."

And from the RAC :-

"Thank you for your recent correspondence, Firstly, please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in my reply. Unfortunately, due to recent staffing levels our telephone and written response times have been adversely affected, we are monitoring the situation very closely.
We only have access to Breakdown policies via this channel, I have today sent your details to the email address I have located for the Rac Trackstar under [email protected] I have received a system response stating they will deal with my request, it may also be best if you send your request directly to the above email, there is also a contact number 0845 604 5433 for the customer service team.
Kind regards"

Anyway replies as expected, if you remember I asked them 'their view on the situation and how they think it should be resolved' but they have just directed me to Trackstar, which if they had read my initial letter properly clearly, stated that I was already in touch with Trackstar !

The last deal offered by trackstar seemed pretty good to me....I haven't taken it up, I've bought a cheap tracker off ebay which costs peanuts to run and I hope covers the insurance clause 'does the vehicle have a working tracker fitted'.

Thank you for taking the trouble to stir the pot on behalf of all concerned. As you quite rightly point out - the merit of a tracker subscription is probably ‘over-rated’ as the technology is more commonplace.

Have you got a link to the part? It might be a service that SGM could provide for customers...

Just felt like winding someone up. Made me feel better about it anyway.
Loads of choice on ebay depending on what you want to achieve, just a location report, live tracking, movement alert, remote operation of relays etc. and then various platforms to monitor the above. I'm not going to recommend anything just in case it dosen't work.
I think maybe early warning and live tracking to give time to gather the boys and go fetch it back  ;) !

Here’s the ‘modern day’ fix:
£12 hardware purchase (that needs hardwiring and hiding in the guts of the Vee.
£2/month subscription thereafter.
:)

I just looked at that and you also need to have a separate Vodafone SIM contract which is £5 a month?
plus the locator battery needs charging every 7 days so is that what you mean by having to hardwire it up somehow - to the car battery which doesn't sound easy?

The link says the contract is ‘from £2/month’ thereafter.

Definitely would need professional installation to be well hidden. Probably a 12v feed spurred from the cigarette lighter to a usb. I mentioned earlier in the thread that this could be an SGM service option (hidden in the dashboard). He seems to be able to removed quite quickly. All hypothetical!

i track
£47 including hard wire kit
Pay as you go Sim... just top up when necessary
Live tracking £20 per year if thats what you want.......
No subscription needed if you're happy for the device let you know it's on the move (by text 2p)
You can phone the tracker at any time and it will respond with a text giving full location and a link to Google maps showing it's exact location.
Also useful if you have forgotten where you parked

anyway , as per my original post I decided to get the upgraded system from Trackstar fitted last month.

It was at the discounted rate of only £199 including one year subscription instead of £399.
at least now the unit is working again ( as per my insurance cover !!)
and if i dont renew the subscription they can still track the car for free if the Police ask them to.

best thing about removing the old system was now the battery will not drain down after 6 weeks.
The old battery is a huge lump compared to the new one

the unit is also much smaller

needed the dash to come out so thanks again to scotty6r4 for talking them through it on the phone.
