2016 race dates and car changes

Last weekend saw us at Mallory Park with the frenchies in the Track Attack Race Club.

Spent most of Saturday getting the car to run properly, turned out to be fuel filter issue. also had to change the broken rocker assembly which caused the bent pushrod at Snetterton
Car all loaded up ready for the 6am start Sunday morning. A nightmare journey with parts of M1 closed see us arrive just before they closed the gates at 9-30am.
Went out for qually and onto track to find we had no boost, a lap of Mallory and back into pits for the boys to take a look. Boost hose came off the inlet, some idiot forgot to do up the jubilee :) straight out getting on the pace 3rd quickest for most of qually until we was pippped at the end but very happy with 4th from 30 cars Best lap 54.8

Race 1, French cars only
Sat in assembly area, all raring to go and the heavens opened. "This is going to be interesting" I thought everyone on dry set ups/tyres.
Starting 3rd on the grid in very tricky conditions, couldn't believe how much grip we had and quickly got onto the tail of the leader. We couldn't find a way through but very happy to settle for a 2nd place. Best lap 1.01.7

Race 2 , combined grid Nippon
Starting 4th, we got a brilliant start and went into Gerrards side by side with the 205, kept going all the round to lead the race very briefly when he outbraked me into the haiirpin. Lost a few more places, struggling for grip with tyres going off in a 20 minute race, finished 5th overall but 3rd in the frenchies . Best lap 53.3.

That's it for this year, very happy with the end of the season performances and some good results.
To solve the pushrod issue has cost us 30bhp so lots of potential still to come with brake upgrade and other goodies for 2017

Man - that looks like you had an epic battle on your hands in the wet - but great driving. And yes great to hear you did finally get some good races in without too much an issue, 30 bhp down???? are you going to get them ponnies back?

Thanks guys,

30 bhp down???? are you going to get them ponnies back?

Yes, Engine or head will be coming out to sort the damn problem. Pushrod holes in the head need opening up so they don't touch, back to standard height rocker assembly so we get full lift on the cam.
If it don't work.... the bloody things coming out!!!!!!!!

Surely PM!

We have to access the pits/paddock by crossing the track, 9-30 am gates shut for the racing to begin.
They do open the gates lunchtime I was told :)

Ahh - so the shimming of the rocker base was to get the correct geometry for the push rods? Well, I hope for your sakes that the opening holes sorts that for you. Are you sticking with standard push rods?

Yes. shimming the base brought the pushrods away from the head.
Exactly our thoughts, really unsure whether to pursue this cam any more, Jack wants it out, spoilt the start to our season.
The car has been so good apart from the engine problems which makes it even more frustrating.
Always run standard pushrods with 285 and the RT300, never had any issues.
Thinking about the RT200 @Mart

Personally, I couldn't fault the rt200, albeit I had a slightly modified version of it. Was in situ when I trapped 115mph (or whatever it was) at Pod years ago. Idle was somewhat lopey, but that's par for the course when running a hot stick.

I also found Kent easier to deal with than Piper (read with regards to grinding the cam to my spec), but haven't dealt with either company for many years now, so it could be all change?

Over a cuppa at Donington? ;)

Nah, just a narrower lobe angle and slightly more lift. It was a similar spec to the early 'grp A' version of the bp285 that Piper used to produce for the GTTs in the mid 90's, before they started taming down the spec for better idle & off-boost driveability.

Yep, o.e rockers & pushrods, with Piper's valve springs.

If I could be bothered chasing numbers again, it's the cam I'd be calling Kent about.

@Duncan Grier has a contact at Kent cams.... I collect a cam for a few years back... Maybe worth seeing if he can help....

I did have a contact at piper cams, however after I turned down a job there I haven't spoken to him.... But I don't mind getting in touch with him if you want Dave :)

@Clarkey , I have to say it was awesome to come over and watch at Mallory, the rain did make it interesting in all the classes, the Porsche bumper cars were fun to watch too....... The old girl was a beast everywhere and I could only see 1 place you were losing time and that was trying to get out the hairpin....as soon as she boosted you stood still, then went off like an elastic band ....It was great to see you start, play, and finish the races and the smile on your face after the first race is worth everything you went through this season...

Each time down the straights you were pulling the 205 in...(even if you are 30bhp down) , it was all grunt low down .... it was at Donington back straight you would have had him and pulled away I'm sure.....

Brakes will be an awesome bonus for next season, you may want a bungee cord on your head to prevent whiplash....;-) ..Rock on 2016..

Thanks Paul, always great to see and how much you enjoy the racing.

Yes, good to finish the season on a high with some good results, even though the car was not at its full potential.
The brakes will be a improvement, we have always lost out in the braking areas.
Will be talking to Chris to see what we can do regarding the wheelspin in the wet.
Can we have switchable maps with Adaptronic on a switch? so if conditions change once we are in the car, we can change the setting.

Off to Donington on the 5th November for a play :)

On previous vx220 conversions to standalone an easy switch was between the map and actuator boost pressure which works really well when weather not so nice

I am not sure if it has moved on in terms of changing maps live
