1999 renault scenic 1.6 starting problem ( Immobiliser?))

Ok here goes, I have done alot of searching on my problem and have tried every suggestion out there.

I got the car off my dad and he had experienced starting problems but it had allways resolved itself, i had an idea it was the immobiliser but wasnt to worried as it allways sorted itself out either leaving it for an hour or just fidling with central locking.
Last saturday night i run my son to work, i had to de-ice the car and was in a rush so i used water from the kettle to speed it up.
The car started fine and it was only a short journey, parked the car in its usual spot and didnt use it the next day.

Monday morning was another cold and frosty day, this time i scrapped the ice off the windscreen and then tried to start the car, it wouldnt start just turned over, usualy i can get it to start but this time no matter what i tried nothing worked.
I popped the bonnet and had a quick look around, only thing i noticed was that a cat must have climbed on top of the engine as there was cat hairs all over the inside of the bonnet plus on the top of engine.
Further inspection revealed no obvious disconected wires.

Its been sitting in the same place ever since, ive flattened the battery once trying to get it started and just before the battery went flat i tried the center console button press while turning the ignition, didnt work at first but then the engine fired but died straight away.
Ive had it fire up another two times and die the same way, I'm at a loss and im thinking of buying a device that will bypass the immobiliser.

Has anybody got any advice for my problem...many thanks in advance.

Ok ive cleaned the TDC sensor switch and cant see any earth cables that are corroded. took the plugs out one of which was so tight coming out i had to extend the ratchet handle for more leverage.

The top half of the plug came away first, then the rest after abit of wrestling.
Once the plugs were out they were dry, i can hear the fuel pump kick in when i turn the key.
How do i check for a spark?, now ive inserted the plug into the coil and placed the bottom of the plug onto exposed metal and turned the engine over?.

There was no spark, im at a loss, would changing the tdc sensor be beneficial?.

There was a clicking noise coming from the fuse box ( right side under bonnet) when turning the key.
The immobiliser light flashes rapidly all the time as well.

this is a ph1 style,

the later style where the bonnet has the grille on it is a ph2

that and the keys are different, ph1 is an ir unit with a transmitter eye visible, ph2 is rf and no visible transmitter on the key.

Its a ph2 model , the keys are RF, am thinking of sending my ecu unit off or even buying a complete new second hand ecu/fob etc.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the ECU plse, ive looked in the engine bay and cant seem to locate it.

you'll need to send it off to have the immob removed/checked.

on the ph2 the ecu is down by the battery behind the passenger headlight thick metal cover over it

Thanks chris, ive seen the ecu with the thick metal cover over it the other day, wasnt sure it was the ecu.

How do i release the metal cover to get at the ECU?.
