Clio 197 engine swap into 1 of the 33 Silver 172 Cup's

Yeah i wanted the inlet retarded a few degrees to try and keep it holding power above 6500rpm as per scoffs instruction. I torqued everything up before removing the pulley lockers. Then rotated and checked it more times than i can count (so 5 maybe) the double checked the torque on the tensioner, idler and bottom pulley (y)
Sounds abit OCD [emoji6]

Why go finer if it's the oem size? What's 0.1mm between friends? Only used as they had it on the shelf in screw fix (y)
Strength...you're using less holes for starters and I doubt your threads will be as good as the factory ones integrity wise. Not that it matters too late now lol

At a bit of a stop at the moment. not much happening. I want to get a few bits blasted clean before re fitting. Im also awaiting delivery of a link pipe that will allow me to join the 182 manifold to the 172 exhaust system as there are some differences in lengths on the system.

Today i did pop over to @Jezer101 gaff and steal his boot lid. Surprisingly light thing to be fair. Only did this as my rear screen looks to have been tinted in the past then removed, this had pulled all the heater wire stuff off the screen. Had been a bit of an annoyance with the recent cold snap we have been having down in Gloucester the past couple of weeks. He also replaced a wing mirror cover for me that looked to be off a different colour Clio. I have managed to now buy 2 cup spoilers, one in blue but got damaged and one that was sold in the correct colour for my car and in mint condition. Turned up scuffed and the wrong silver...... currently being dealt with through paypal as the bloke has been messing me about and took 2 weeks to say just send it back. Its a bit more involved than that but itll get sorted. Ill prob get the blue one then sorted for use on the car.

New boot lid hasnt got a renault sport badge on and needs a new plate fitting too but makes it look a little less dated. I dont think the old renault sport badge has aged too well so glad its gone. Though in the future im sure itll be a hard to get item like gt turbo badges are.

ahh crap yeah, big job? do we need to do a full strip of mine on to that one. need to check the condition to see if its worth the agro swapping it over

Just your speaker connection is missing on mine and your door card, rub strip, door handle, mirror . Lol

exhaust link pipe turned up this morning so thats another thing off the list. Need to go through what i have and replace any missing nuts and bolts and order up an inlet manifold gasket as thats missing. But in reality enthusiasm and time is all i really need now to get it fitted up.

Gave a couple of things a quick blast with satin black. Still have the upper inlet to do. Nothing spectacular just a little neater than oil stained cast ali. Trial fitting the bits back I have noticed I need to modify the cambelt cover a touch. The belt runs on a slightly different angle on the 197 so now touches the 172 cover. Pain but should be able to sort it with a flap wheel.20170204_181945.webp 20170204_184028.webp

Nicely done!
I may need to ask scoff about 197 cams in my 172 and what timing to set them to. I had it written down somewhere but can't find it anymore.....

For some reason in my head I think it's 4 or 5 degrees retarded on the inlet. I'd check though that's what this is set too.

Managed to get the extra hole drilled and tapped into the block for the gearbox. Thread locked and torqued up the flywheel bolts then aligned and fitted the new clutch. I've also modified the cambelt cover to clear the belt. You can see how close it was in the pics where you can now see through it. 20170205_132326.webp 20170205_132455.webp 20170205_133717.webp

We are now cooking with gas. Will order up some last bits I need and an inlet manifold gasket and I can then look at timing for getting it swapped into the clio

ive done nothing but move the car off the road and to the drive in the last month. poor show on my part should at least give it a short drive
