Clio 197 cup turbo

I think its the case for a lot of the better rods that they are made in China but finished in the EU , or by another finishing company.

Got a set to go in my lads twiglet, know a few people personally who are running them and seen a few on Facebook and forums running them. Unless you are going for stupid big power they wouldn't put me off.

Spoke to a guy by me who was building an engine for someone who insisted on eagle rods and the guy said about Chinese rods but he wanted eagle so they arrived from America still in their original box with made in China on it!!

Heard the same, my Boss isn't keen, we build A series engine's, have a B series sprint car with them in but he's doing a minute at a time.

My boss is more concerned about what they're made from??

I think they have to be checked and balanced.

Been a while since any updates on this so here's a small one.

I bought a spare engine with low compression on no. 1 cylinder. Which has now been stripped. Put through the hot wash and ultrasonic and painted.

The Block is at the machine shop and the parts to rebuild the bottom end have been ordered and got a new set of core plugs already.

The Block is getting a hone and the face checked, the crank is being polished and the head is getting a minimal skim to make sure it is flat.

So it's getting, Pec Rods and wossner 8.5:1 pistons, all new bearings thrusts, water pump cam belt kit etc.

Looking forward to driving it again.

Oh need one of these if anyone has one laying around. I have one in my original engine but it's still in the car.

So the Block, Head and crank are all ready to go. Didn't need much, just a hone, polish the crank and 4 thou skim on the head.

And these arrived today.

I was really wanting 8.5:1 compression ratio and I think they have come through as 9.0:1. But may be a good thing as it brings a limit to it and it'll be perfectly adequate for a road car.

Got some catcams valve springs on order too.

I've also bought an intercooler core to make my own!
24"x8"x3.5" rated to 600bhp so I'll give it a go.
Forgot I've got an alloy meg rad and fan pack coming too and my R26 gearbox is currently being rebuilt.

I've booked a place on the clio's and coffee at Efi parts on the 23rd of this month, just to check all is OK with the map but it's looking a bit tight but possible.

Don't really need to drop it but just thought you wanted that as an ideal figure.

Don't quote me on this but the 225 gasket is about 0.8mm thicker than the standard one and the 250 is about 0.5mm thicker again.

Was speaking to Mike tanski a while ago and as a rule of thumb on a 4 pot 2 litre an extra 0.8-1.00mm drop compression by roughly '1'

Also when did you order the core from and when? Heard there might be an issue with their main supplier in the UK? Apparently their site has been down for a while?

I did want to, but it's a Road car and trying to limit it.

Core was From CSK. Hope there isn't. I guess I'll hear soon if there is.

I followed the guide and it cost me a lot of time because I had to re-do the fan loom. The larger plug is easy you just pull the retainer out and swap the wires around.
The last plug (small) is a little different and needs to be cut and soldered.
Coming back to this, I am about to do the conversion. Can you post a pic of your UPC wiring like this please? This is the current Clio one on mine, i'd like to see your post-conversion picture if poss.

@bloke

Looks like you were right Carl,

Vibrant UK has gone into liquidation, so luckily they have an order with Vibrant in Canada and managed to add mine to the order and I should have it in around a week or so.

I have an issue with my ring gaps, Top ring is far too big where the 2nd ring is pretty good, I'm thinking the rings are wrong, fitted an original over 100k ring as a test and it was 5 thou smaller than the new top ring??

So a few more bits,

I managed to fit the crank tonight,
Still waiting on some rings which is starting to drive me mad as I'm getting impatient.
