Aaaaannnnnnnnd the gasket turned up already. So that was fitted to the pump with a light smear or sealant. Rest of the hoses were fitted and the wiring tidied up a little. There was a slight difference, the side plate mountings were differently spaced so only one hole was picked up on. Oil drained out and some cheapo 10w40 was thrown in. I think all I have left is to fit the exhaust and fill it with coolant, check for leaks and then it should be ready to go.

Woke early this morning and gave a the car a little run out, nothing to major, out for some fuel, then a run down the road for a quick rinse off at a car wash then a few miles back. Car seems ok, defo a little more eager out of junctions, quieter and willing to run smoothly. Maybe a touch more power but still a tad slow lol. Anyway, enjoyed the drive and happy to have it back out again. Oh I also fitted some new rear lights too, gordini/S style with the chrome trim.

Earlier 1100's had the chrome trimmed rear light unit, stainless side strips and different upper rear quarter panels with a Chrome hockey stick trim, bigger 'pan lid' wheel trims, later cars like yours ( and mine) get stripped back a bit, R10 wheel centres, although we lost the strip Speedo and gained round dials.
I don't year of changeover, or lineage of models, but there's lots of little differences between year and model, country of origin ( Dacia 1100 included , FASA drum breaked cars) I'm not an expert on them, and every day is a school day.
Congratulations on quick turnaround, I'd swop out to 20/50 when you're happy with lump, cos you can get your cock between some of the engine clearances....well I can....I mean could

Port center's are different. Sierras and cleons are different engines, though they look the same. 1289's are good, solid skirt pistons, better than 1397cc from a thrash point of view, but not easy to find these days. Plus you need to get a block with it's Lugs still on which rules out MK1 5 blocks. Wonder if you could get a cheap atmo piston/ liner kit for a 1400 and fit into a GT turbo block. You still need an atmo 13/1400 for the flywheel. Every problem has it's solution, every solution creates new problems.

I was at the wind up really, as it's the spare motor for the Dauph, just incase I blow it motor to bits. One day it will go, when the car goes. There are bits out there, there's a lot of dreamers with bits they'll never use. That gearbox that turned up at mine proves that point. It was the first of its kind I have seen and I've seen getting on for a couple of hundred one way and another. Keep looking and following up on any leads you might get. You just never know...

20/50 mineral ftw. Valvoline zr1 is high zinc, these flat tappet motors love it. Oil pressure has never been better on my c1j with it in.

Deffo healthier. Fartier as @Turbell mentioned. Funny how the old engine cranked at the same speed, with plugs in, as this one with plugs out

Oil turned up super fast from Opie Oils. Discounts are no longer working it seems though.

20w50 mineral oil thrown in and all seems quiet. I still want to put some miles on it then reset the tapits, but confident the right oil is in there now to do so

Great to see your back up and running i may know were there is a 1289cc engine if its still available but was out of a dacia so unsure if its the later larger flywheel type
