Megane Year 6 service parts

Renault called yesterday to book me in for its 6th year (big service). Initially the quote was £350 which sounded like a bargain but it turns out the cost; with water pump + cambelt is £1299. I'm gonna do it myself, so I have a few questions.
Do I need to do the water pump & belt with 21k on the clock? Its 6 years old don't forget, an if its best to do it is it an easy job?

Depends if you are keeping it or selling it. I usually go up to 50% over time on cambelts IF the mileage is <50% of rated capacity, EG, the V6 is 5 years or 72k miles, it's done 13k since its last belt so I have left it to 7 years. Been doing this for quite a long time with 21's and never been an issue, in fact I removed a 9 year old belt last year from a mates car and it looked like new with only 5k miles on it.
At 21k, I would happily leave it a year or two. At your own risk though obviously :) you can usually inspect them and get a feel for condition quite easily.

I almost sold it a few months ago but had second thoughts and pulled out, mainly because I've hardly ever driven it. I'm gonna keep it because I'm probably never gonna own a car with this level of performance unless I get massively into debt. I'm not gonna do that.

Do I need any special tools an if I do what do I need and where can I get it?

I finally got round to doing the oil change last week and I was able to look at the cambelt from underneath which looked in mint condition. If I inspect it every 6 months or so will I be able to spot when its getting tired (cracks)?
Are visual inspections a reliable way to determine its reliability?

Generally yes you can see wear and tear, but the wear will show on the toothed side more than the flat side. Some pictures here

As said above I usually go up to 50% over time on cambelts IF the mileage is <50% of rated capacity - not had a failure yet, or in fact any sort of wear issues at all. When I remove them they usually look like they would have gone a while longer without issue. I'm doing the Vee this year, 14k miles and 7.5 years, ill post a pic when I take it off.
