Winter re-spec

Yup, proper, solid engine porn really. :) :approve:

I see that Emerald offer an off-the shelf ITB package for the Vee (inc ECU) - well a generic 6 cylinder engine kit anyhow.

It;s strong money, but at least it's a buy once and forget kit. Inlet can be fabricated relatively easily, though I'm not convinced on the trumpet size at 45mm. Was thinking more like 48-50mm, and then have a play around with trumpet length. Though would want to ensure the breadth of the torque band was maintained, so 50mm may be pushing it a bit!

Are there any cars out there that have ITBs as standard? I saw E36 M3 written about, but am I right in saying they're 42mm?

Yes M3s have itbs and they aren't huge. Bigger isn't always better. 48's would be about the biggest you'd want to go on normal-ish road cams id gather. You'd also need a pretty radically ported head to make the most of them as the inlets to the L7X heads are tiny. Trumpet length is more important than size as you will obviously match them to the throttles bodies anyway. The ones listed on Emeralds website are Jenvey DCOE replacements. Not the best to use for straight runs into each bank of cylinders.

I've personally looked at Triumph 955i itb's as I reckon they are extremely well packaged for a v6 layout. Other than that AT Power produce some crackers that are fly by wire compatible and made for v6's.

Very useful info as always Brett. AT Power looks like a really good avenue to explore. When the time comes I want a fit and forget system really. If that means aftermarket ECU, stack dash etc etc then so be it, though ideally I'd like to retain as much of the road car functionality as possible, just with a bloody load of trumpets in the back!

Need to keep my eye on the current plan though, pleeeeeenty to be getting on with. ITBs are towards the end of the plan really!

Yeah id personaly say that unless you are carrying the work out yourself, get one stage finished at a time so you can still enjoy the car. Things can soon go stagnant as many projects on here have proved. Im like a kid in a sweet shop usually so i change my mind on how im doing things probably more than most. However im still very much enjoying my vee ownership as im not bored of it. I know for a fact that if i left it at my mates workshop for him to do id have probably of sold it last year. Get it running and drive it! Oh and get pictures of your rear interior up knob head.

Am going to try and make it as much a rolling project as possible, though retrimming and paint etc will obv take it off the road again, though for relatively short period at a time.

If I had my time again I would have had the ph2 engine built and faffed around with ITBs etc etc and then offered it all up to the car. At least that way I could have enjoyed the car while the ph2 engine was being messed about with. Hindsight eh?! :)

Scott's promised me some piccy wicks, so when they come through I'll bung em up. Will just look like the back of a Trophy really (minus the roll cage) and the jury's still out on whether to leave it like that or fashion some ally interior panels. Will have to see what's been exposed now all the plastic has gone.

Bulkhead pre-powdercoating. Then lexan and seals and we're there. Considering this is something I've wanted to do since day 1 I'm pretty happy!

Now powedercoated and in :)

Wrap will be coming off. Not decided what will take it's place colour-wise. Quite liking the idea of a standard outer appearance long-term though. The Audi taught me that in terms of appearance, sometimes less is more. lol

Iceberg all the way!! Best way to keep it a sleeper.
I would second that - keep it au natural from the outside, but one look at the bulkhead may give the game away though.

Yup, slowly being swayed! I don't think I'd go for a wrap again - not a reflection on the process or product itself; have loved having a wrap - but I do miss the lustre that properly treated paint gives off.

I don't think the vee will ever be able to be a sleeper, it's just to loud and proud. Lol. A sleeper to me is a something like a volvo 240GL with rusty arches and a broken headlight, which happens to have a 2JZ with a truck turbo in it.

We shall see where it goes, I've got a couple of ideas up my sleeve, there'll be a bit of work involved though (as always then!).

Lol. You are so right about that! You should also mention all the stuff in the back that makes it look like a holiday drive :)

Driver needs tweed jacket, deerstalker, pipe and beard along with Coke bottle bottom specs to keep up illusion as well as nose pressed against the screen with white knuckles clutching and deforming the steering wheel!

Funnily enough, at Kimbolton this year there was a volvo 740 lowrider on bags with Fast and Furious graphics down the side a purple paintjob and a shaggy carpeted purple interior. It was bouncing up and down and generally looking very un-volvo like. The owner?

...he was a bloke of about 75-80 and couldn't have been more enthusiastic. Certainly rewrote a few perceptions that day!!

Yeah I remember that bloke! Highly unsual, especially the choice of car and the age of its owner, when it came to the mods installed on that car.

Harness jobbies in

Couple of bits Scott is finishing off and then the car will be coming home.

Looking into standalone ECU options as want to have something that can be played with to get the best out of the modifications the car already has. Will also "future proof" the car to a certain extent. Won't be cheap but then again nothing is with these cars.

Is this the one you were referring to? LINK

Check out the video - would love to have seen the M5 driver's reaction! :)

Ha! Nothing wrong with a good old holset lorry turbo. They work brilliantly on petrol engines. Do it Jon! HX40's work great on 3 litre engines! Be a feckin man! Do it!
