Winter Insurance.

I know its ealry but I will be putting the car away from 1st November and register as SORN. I am looking for some advice from people who also only use the car during summer months.

My questions are:-

Do you use a specialist insurance company?

How will it affect my NCB as I will never be fully insured for a year on the vehicle?

Also if anyone has any other advice I'd be glad. :D
Thanks.

Not sure about insurance, but I can help with 'other advice' .

- Drive it in the winter too, just sensibly. You won't die and it won't full apart in a months time ;)

You will probably be best to keep the car insured fully comprehensive through the winter. You can benefit by organising a low mileage policy for when you do use the car - if you haven't already.

Yeah just keep yourself on fully comp for the year

then you get your no claims

but put your yearly mileage down to 5000, or 4000, or however many you do when you are using it.

Cheers guys,

probably will keep it fully comp then, I suppose it was a case fo weighing up how much I'd ssave not being fully comp and how much I would save building up the NCB.

I am not sure you would save anything as the insurance company are very unlikely to downgrade to third party fire and theft of the Vee - and if they did you would get hardly any refund if any.

I was thinking more of a specalised company who did some sort of storage insurance? or maybe even the home insurance covering the car as it will be stored in a secure locked garage. Can it be any different to having a bike in a shed?

I do this every year, normally i SORN it in November and back on the road in April.

I have done it with for the past 4 years since i've had my garage.

The idea being lower mileage, no salt on the car, no high petrol bills and no driving in poor conditions.

Of course a run about is needed, mine is a £200 pug 106 but it does the job. :approve:

As for the insurance i just leave it running on fully comp as insurance are hard work as
it is, never mind start changing half way through a policy.

But the clear crisp sunny winter days are some of the best to drive in. My favourite time to drive infact. I couldn't just stop driving my car for x months. I'd go nuts.
