hi,
plenty of experience of them on other cars as it's been practically law in luxembourg for a while ( officially from this year ), prior to that if you didn't have them on & you had an accident, the police would frown upon you (even fine you without question sometimes), your insurance would make it as difficult as possible to pay up & you couldn't get your little winter all clear/checked sticker from the government ( free check open to all car owners to prepare you car for winter use ! )
i've had winter tyres on a civic type-r, M3, fiat 500 abarth essesse ( current car ) plus a couple of other cars i'd rather not mention
anyway, not had them on the Vee yet, but i guess i will have to fit them if I drive it this winter, although looks like i'm moving to the netherlands now, so it may not be an issue....
but for info ( from what I've been told by the garages in Lux ), once the road gets below about 5celcius, normal summer compound tyres don't adhere to the road as well, winter tyres are made of different compound ( as well as shed loads more tread for rain/snow dispersal ) which behaves better or can manage the colder tarmac temperatures.......they also have different ratings for max speed as if you drive your car too fast, they heat up real well & deform! or if you're lucky just smell real funky when you stop driving !.....for that reason, you can't or are recommended not to, drive in the summer in winter tyres. basically you'll bugger them real quick & they wear really badly with warm tarmac temperatures !
i'd hate to think what the price will be for Vee sized winter tyres & not even sure if my homolgation papers for luxembourg mention winter tyres sizes that fit the Vee ( all new cars have it mentioned on their registration papers ) but i'll check and let you know
tip for you, winter tyres are much cheaper on the continent, i.e germany, belgium, france....as they're used to fitting them each winter, not really heard of them being sold in the UK.
