Windscreen washer pressure low

Hi.

I was wondering if the windscreen washer pressure should be low.
When I use the windscreen washer on my car it is like an asthmatique is spitting droplets of water onto the windscreen.
When I'm doing 100 kph it's no point in trying to use the washer cause its not hitting the windscreen, it just blows straight onto the lower part of the wipers.

Back when I bought the car the washer wasn't working so I had the dealer fit a new one. They had to fiddle a lot to find the problem, but it was eventually sold. I told them that I felt that the pressure was a little bit low, but they compared it to the other Vee they had in stock and they were similar.
Now the car is in winter storage, and I was thinking this might be something i can sort out while it's stored inside.

I've never experienced a car with such a terrible pressure out of the nozzles. Could it be because it is french? :)

There is windscreen washer function?

The one in my V6 never works but the one in my Clio 182 works perfectly. I suspect a combination of salted roads in the UK and lack of use.

Wait, is it not called windscreen washer?

They told me they installed a new washer pump because the old one didn't function, and it functioned the same on the other Vee they had.

Now I get it! Thank you James, I will have a try. Is there any way I can clean the nozzles? Like if there is something stuck inside them.

Try blowing air down them. I used a can of air from an art shop :) Take the pipes off otherwise the crap may just come back up and block the nozzles. Bit of a fiddly job, but even I managed it. (once)

The washer setup is a standard Clio setup, in the front passenger side scuttle.

The washer motors have a little rubber seal in that expands over time and restricts flow, making the washer jet dribble pathetically, much like me over pictures of Jennifer Lawrence.

If you're bothered you can strip the motor down and cut the rubber bit back. 50% of the time you will break the clips that hold the motor bit together. I dont bother any more and buy a whole new motor, and a connector plug to solder in, in case the connectors are shitty. Be warned the headlight washer motors are different to non-headlight washer motors. I also buy new washer jets to go on the bonnet which also makes a massive difference, 99p each. Last time I did it I got the motor, plug and jets all brand new for little more than ten of your English pounds. It takes about an hour to pull the wiper arms off, scuttle cover out, wiper linkage out with the motor, then the whole washer bottle comes out; then I wash out the washer bottle of any crap, replace the motor, solder the new plug in, reassemble it all and then change the washer jets. Assuming your wiper arms come off the spindles....if theyre stuck you're in for a hoot!

If the wiper arms are stuck, a ball joint removal tool will make the task super easy. Very cheap too, like this one:

I want to change the washer pump too but I cannot get the electrical connector off the motor. The wiper linkage with the motor is to bulky to come out of the scuttle area. Is there a trick to get the wiper motor connector off?

Make sure that the wiper mechanism is in the "rest" position then it will come out. It does take a bit of manouvouring! If it wasn't in the rest position, there deffo won't be enough room.

Also tape some cloths on the bonnet and wing painted areas close to where you are working, just in case you slip ;)

P.s. the motor and linkage do come out in one lump, no need to remove the motor from the linkage in situ (if that's even possible).

The motor cable connector is a bit awkward and tight so that it has a good water tight seal, but there's no trick to removing it. Careful use of long nose pliers and a screwdriver should do it!

Brute force and ignorance.

Once the bolts are out it comes out if you rotate it a bit. When you put it back make sure you locate the dowel correctly at the back on the bulkhead or your wipers wont work properly as the whole linkage will be out of position. The connector I use a jewellers flatblade screwdriver to stick down the connector retaining clip then give it a good tug.
