Who's took the plunge??

Was just wondering how many folk on here have took the plunge and carried out their own mini Grand Design style house extensions or interesting builds?
We all post pics of our cars but rarely the most expensive undertaking in our lives. I'm just about to draw plans up to add about another 60% to the footprint of our bugalow as well as doubling the size of the garage and adding a small workshop area to the rear of it. What have you guys done or had plans to do?

Putting a 2nd floor onto my bungalow at the min, complete arse but gain 76 square meters.

Hardly grand designs but still a balls ache for the average builder/

Mine has taken 4 years!

I decided that I was so happy with my 1930's house (location and plot) that would make it my forever house. The project was not properly thought out because it was a burst pipe that kick-started the process (a need to redecorate anyway).

It's a pretty house but has always been bloody freezing.

I can't elaborate enough on what has been done - but it has been one of those scenarios where it would've been cheaper to demolish and build again (0% VAT).
The only size increase was a single story extension to double (with a slightly bigger foot print).

Child labour - digging in underfloor heating.

Looks a similar setup to my bungalow FastEvo. We are planning to leave the roof alone for the first stage of work but if in the long run its easier to add to do it in one hit we will. Luckily my neighbour has showed me the way forward with the garage, which again is in a similar arrangement as yours. He restores tractors in his so plenty big enough for me! Lol I'll be adding heating to mine though.
That looks a great project Kett. Great supply of labour too! Ive got my brother and Shaun to do my heavy work! Lol

Bungalows rock! We are just getting plans drawn up for roof conversion of ours. 2 extra beds and a bathroom upstairs. Work to start next year.
Need to buy some nice plastic flooring for the garage and paint the walls white too.

I have to say Matt we really like our bungalow too. We bought it derelict 3 years ago and did it up before little un' number 1 was here. There's loads of scope for making them much larger. Its now time to turn it into a 4 bedroom as we need room for number 2 and when Shaun randomly decides to gate crash.....oh and not to mention the two project cars! Lol
