What damage could i expect??

LT

New Member
Going to work this morning. Going know more than 10/15 mph, lost the back end on black ice.

Tryed to get her back on track but to far gone, my passanger side rear wheel is slightly bent left to right after hitting the kerb square on.

Does anyone know what damage there could be, i know there is some play with tracking.

Its out be a few degrees, enough to notice with the naked eye.

Wheel needs to come off......check the suspension arms/track rod etc for damage and look at where they mount onto the subframe.
I did this and broke a wheel at similar speed. Renault will quote you to replace every part, major and minor even if there is no damage,("can't afford to take chances because it's a high-powered sportscar"). Don't let that frighten you. I got them to quote/list the parts and then took it to a specialist and fitted only the parts genuinely needed at 1/4 of Renault's quote.
Took the oppurtunity to upgrade the subframe and suspension arms to the much improved Mk2 spec.

Thanks TWR1.

What sort of price was all the upgrade etc. I've got access to a hydraulic ramp, and a mechanic.

The subframe could have been sorted with some small welding to reinforce it and therefore the whole job would have been about £750 (including new arms but minus wheel which was a compomotive). Renault quoted £6500 without labour and obviously no wheel!!! The Mk2 subframe and other parts I used came from ex-TWR development stock and so were purchased much cheaper......I think I paid about £2000 to upgrade, including labour. On reflection I'm glad it happened as I would probably not have committed money to the upgrade otherwise, and the car, with the addition of ARBs and KW suspension is totally different to the standard Mk1 to drive now.

Brill, thanks alot for the help and info. Will have to ramp the Vee up after work and see where i stand.

Thanks again.

Bring on the summer!!

I would get the alignment checked before doing any dis-mantling. This will give an indication of how far out things are.

Then dismantle carefully and inspect every component to wee what damage has been done.

If sub frame has been damaged could be expensive.

Be very very carefull what you attempt tom straighten out.

John, It needs to be checked anyway. Why pay for an alignment check before you take it apart. If the car had never been done before it would be slightly out anyway, they're never perfect.
Take it apart and check it over for obvious damage. If it looks serious get it looked at properly. Pay for the alignment after any new bits have been fitted, or not if you're lucky.

The alignment check will give you a good idea where to check.

I doubt if its slightly out, feel it may be way out.

I agree, it'll be out, just think he can save the cost of alignment as there are obvious bits to check after a side impact to the wheel.

Tell you what LT, makes me realise that it's probably best to leave the Vee at home in this weather, regardless of how careful I am driving it

At the possibility of forking out £6.5K to fix it, scares the living daylights out of me.....I hope you get it sorted soon hun....Good Luck....

Hi gents. Thanks for all the input. This forum is quality for that. Helps know end.

Right, got the vee sorted. It was just the tracking. Thank God.

Checked all areas for damage, nothing.

Got the old spanner out and put the wheel back in line.

I got the allignments off a mate at my local tyre place and did it myself.

If anyone would like them just give my a shout.

Jainey- that is a great shout, weather like that again i'm walking. (three miles) Prob not, get the misses to take me in.

She's got a pink saxo thou, kids at school will rip me!!!!!!!

Thanks again for all input, HAIL 'V6CLIO.NET'

All you had to do is a search on Alignment and you would have got all the alignment set points.

Always have a look in Technical Questions and Information first.

By now covers most things.

Again it helps if people use this section more so that we can all go to one place and do a search.

Would of done that first but i couldn't get on to forum last night so needed to get them A.S.A.P.

You know get the vee on the road!!!!!!!!

I really need to pull my finger out and get our v6clio.net wiki publically available. Then all club members will be able to build an encyclopedic resource of all things Vee related ... well that's the idea ;).
