Valver Soft Pedal Conversion - Determined to figure it out!

Well i must be a smartie then because i am going to find the answer!

I need a pic of a 172 clutch cable though to see if it'd fit.. I know it'll fit gearbox end just need to know about the pedal end.

I got mne to work properly but it didnt hold due tothe tension ... i held the ratchet mechanism in place and connected the cable, i then welded the two parts of the ratchet mechansm together and used superglue all over it ... (was a tempory emperiment) and the plastic cracked due to the tension that was on the cable!?

If someone was able to make a fixed clutch mechanism for the top of the pedal it works fine with the stop in place!

Or you could not feck about with the ratchet and use an alternative clutch cable? You never know, if a 172 cable works, might not be prone to snapping like the valver cables!

geton the case dude, im gonna be soft pedalin mine when it goes back together as well and if you could work it would be awesome.

I'm gonna do my best, been bugging me for a while.

I'm gonna take a trip to Renault and compare a valver and 172 clutch cable to see if A) they are any different in length and B) if they are interchangeable.

If the 172 cable looks like it'll fit i think that might be the answer.

right, no more posts on this thread till you sorted it, am banning them!

keep thinkin you got it, gettin all excited, lookin at thread and nope, still waiting

free bump

i rekon this issue is the reason behind my dodgy slipping clutch

i have removed the pedal stop (green one) and now at the gearbox end there is slack on the release arm, where as before there wasnt. so am thinkin the pedal was exerting a little pressure on the thrust bearing and causing my slip

not been out in it yet to check but will keep you posted

if this turns out to be the case then i will also be looking into a fix, and as keiran thinks i rekon its gotta be cables

did you trim the pedal stop?

the clutch pedal needs to sit higher than it would normally to compensate

no, i removed it completely now. but it was fine before i fiddled with the cable with the full o/e stop in :? i think. like i said was a while ago and am not sure

right bringing this back up again

i fitted my new cable yesterday and heres how i fooled the ratchet adjustment system into letting me get the correct slack on the cable with the pedal stop in place.

basically with the pedal stop in place the cable pops off the pedal end as soon as i tried to ratchet it and without it in place it ratchets too far and means the pedal even when fully released still puts pressure on the release bearing as the cable is held taught

here is what i did

fitted new cable to pedal end of the system. routed new cable round to box end.

now before hooking the cable over at the box end ensure the pedal stop is in position and push the pedal to the floor and leave it

go back to the box end and pull the cable and locate it on the release arm as normal.

now heres the tricky bit, push the pedal down just enough to squeeze the pedal stop back out. then very slowly allow the pedal to come back up until you hear the ratchet click and engage, only allow one or two clicks, then push the pedal to the floor and reinsert the pedal stop. now release the pedal fully allowing it to come up to its natural position of rest against the pedal stop.

pump the pedal up and down a few times to confirm you are happy with its action....ahem

check the gearbox end to ensure the cable is not slack but not so taught as to put pressure on the release arm. if this is not the case, repeat the entire process again but do one less click on the ratchet with the pedal stop out.

this has now hopefully setup my pedal properly, i will report fully on road test when the cars running again when my new turbo oil return pipe shows up

cheers

Coops

hmmm ... sounds like you could be onto a winner there coops, however this was on the hybrid im breaking ...

This isnt a original valver cable that correct?

God damn cheep parts! I got my hopes up, i dont do non gen parts so i wasnt sure! :P

and definatly dont do non-gen clutch cable, they are really pants, not just i like gen stuff so i wont touch it pant, i mean actually snap and fall apart in seconds pants, total waste of time and money!

GEN REN FTW

You sure thats not a genuine cable?

The williams clutch cable i bought from Reno looked identicle to that.

Good find on the potential fix though Coops! I think i'm just gonna put the standard release arm in for now, i can't be doing with the hassle of it at the moment, got enough problems! Will attempt it in future though!
