V6 Ph1 Clubsport

First insight into the conversion from Silver/Blue to Silver/Black with the OE Black dashboard now fitted. Note the upgraded OE Cabasse CD stereo unit installed. Momentous day!

From prototype to completion. There were a few further modifications to ensure that the air-vent functioned at every expected direction and a couple of design changes to the bracket itself. Very happy with the final outcome, seen here fitted to the OE black dash.

Looks great and very OEM. I almost can't tell the difference which I think is good :approve:
Thank you for your kind words. It’s one of those situations where it will be a little more obvious to those ‘who know’ when seen in the flesh.

As it was, I inherited this Vee with a lot of dubious ‘blue to black’ converted interior and decided to run with the project in that same direction.

The customised trim panels will be shortly be with us and then we’ll see how well it all gels.

Privately, I’m a bit worried about the A pillar material (I’ll explain later) and whether the CS Sportster work with the humdrum OE steering wheel. I also need to find upgraded bulbs for the Initiale door courtesy lights which currently looks a bit meh.

Finally, finally, finally have received my ‘blue to black’ cabin trim parts and the quality is exceptional. Unfortunately, the proprietor of GP Leather Tech in Reading was hospitalised with Covid complications. He has subsequently made a good recovery but was faced with a huge backlog of orders to attend to. This is why my Vee could not be ready for Silverstone, but I shall be attending in the i8 (and look forward to joining the v6 buddies for good company).

Here’s a sneak preview….

I needn’t have worried as the A-pillars & headliner have been successfully transformed in Alcantara to mimic the ID 255 pack 4 (albeit with the lighter OE colour seen in Ph1).

Interestingly, as the C pillar was ‘flocked’ by a previous owner and the B pillar looking a bit ‘holey’ (shown) after being stripped of seatbelt mounts (due to half-cage), I elected to additionally have these upholstered in darker (original colour match) Alcantara.

Looking good Kett. :approve:

Real pity it will not be ready for The Classic, but see you on site.
Yes, this commissioning process was to indulge my fondness of Vee ownership & of attending low-key motorsport themed events. I genuinely thought that August deadline would be a doddle. Sadly, it wasn’t to be!

Even Simon (Rustedandrotten) tried to persuade me to bring it as a rolling-shell… his enthusiasm is most infectious! However, part of my enjoyment is the driving to/from the event with other classics, so the i8 will fit the bill.

My 996 C4 restoration Project is about to launch soon too. I won’t bore folk with that one, but I think that’s going to be another distraction.

Few milestones achieved this year:
My ownership is now 10 years and the car itself is 20 years old.

Inadvertently, the original ‘customisation project’ from whence the car was relatively new, now finds itself to be a ‘restorative recreation’. Funny how time distorts perception.

Looking great. Really like the courtesy light!
Yes, I guess that made up part of the unseen work as it was necessary to retrieve & assign the door loom from the donor car.

The internal bulbs will be updated to LED items.

….prior to the door cards, the newly refurbished and PPF treated half cage was reinstalled (albeit temporarily without the crossmember to assist with the forthcoming engine work).

Recaros are fitted.
Overall, I’m very pleased with outcome.

Fitting the monotone seat adjusters is last on the list. Need a pop-riveter.
