Wanted Uprated clutch for R5 Gordini

Kevin Leaper

New Member
Hi
Can anyone recommend a clutch for an uprated R5 Gordini turbo. I've recently got my EFi conversion running but can't finish the rolling road session as the (new) standard Borg Beck clutch slips. I don't want to go to a paddle clutch as the engine looks like it's heading for 140bhp. I'm going to sell the car as it is so don't want to carry on with extra mods etc.

Thanks Kev Leaper

i ran with an up rated meca parts clutch on my efi gordini, didnt have slip, ill try and find out the exact one i had

I'm struggling to remember what I had in mine, I want to say Sachs. Standard one will struggle over 150 bhp, mine held 190 BHP. Trouble is the pressure plates are really small. Hence why the Turbo 2s have a very expensive twin plate item.

Regularly ran up to about 200 on a standard LUK clutch without slipping. If you are slipping at 140 I would say you have a Cornflakes box Chinese replica, cheap recon or the clutch is adjusted too tight. OEM, B&B, Sachs, Valeo were pretty much all made by LUK (Laycocks) and boxed accordingly!!

in a gordini? a 180mm clutch? ive had 2 and they both slipped at a lot less than 200bhp

This is great, Kev! Did you solve the issue with the slipping clutch? I'm so fed up with my Gordini's carb system. It just won't start reliably from anything other than stone cold. I am inspired to do something similar to you.

No it's been on the back burner for a while as other projects have got in the way unfortunately. I walk past it every day thinking must get on with that soon!IMG_1282.webp

Shame. There's a lot of work in doing a clutch! I just sent you a pm. Interested to know what you used for the intake for the Retroject. Might be better to post here for all to see?
