Upgrade Battery

I currently have a 12v 44Ah battery in my 1.4 Energy, i want to upgrade it to something larger, what would be the maximum i could put in there? also when the car is left for a few days the battery discharges, could this be due to a dodgy earth? and would a new braided earth cable fix this?

probably more likely a damaged cell in the battery, have you ever let it discharge completely. people do not realise that once a car battery is completely flat the cells inside collapse!

dodgy earth and crap battery.

I have a 75ah battery on one of the 19's and a 65 in the other, not sure about the diesel

i've never let it do it intentionally. it's only done it twice now, once when i did the rear brakes and couldn't find anywhere to buy the correct wheel cylinder so it was sat for 10 days, and now i've just done a new brake master cylinder and tow bar it's been sat around for about 3 days and it was nearly dead.

it looks like i'll be getting a braided earth cable and a new battery, cheers for the info chris.

I wouldnt have said that 10days would cause a battery to collapse, more like the space of a month or so

hmm where you getting your information from? I have used batteries that were drained over a few years by the radio led etc and all have been put back into service fine. Or like my chammy which sits for months without being started and totally dead but a jump gets it going.

Should see some of the batteries on trucks I work on.

interesting, this is just experience. backed up by knowledge from electronics engineers, had it happen not long ago on our fiesta, hadnt been used for about a month and wouldnt turn the engine over, wacked the charger on it waited half an hour managed to get the engine going but as soon as it was turned off in the petrol station it wont start again - just doesnt hold charge anymore

also had it on one of my 21T's - aslong as the live or earth lead is removed when parked up it will be fine...

thats too much fucking about for me leave it a year attached go jump it and its fine in my experience

although you do get dud ones, I scrapped about 200 at the start of the year when you got good money for them
