Turbo Diesel Project ....

Hi all

Ive currently got a williams clio that im selling at the moment and also a 306 turbo diesel as a run around. The pug 1900 td lumps are amazing considering what power they produce in standard form and after a few tweaks to the fuel pump and turbo wastegate. My question is, if I where to buy a cheap clio 16v and bin the engine, what mechanical turbo diesel options would I have? Im not interested in anything with a ECU as I dont want to do wiring. Cheers Adam

And a stronger crank. F8Q is rated to 98Bhp. Very good engine. Easy to wire up...1 wire to Diesel pump and hey presto it runs....

Buy a old Renault 19 Turbo diesel i think its model RN. Then you get electric windows to pinch out and all sorts of goodies... I did.... The engine is VERY heavy and you WILL need to change the front shocks and springs......

and make sure you keep the power steering , had a mk1 clio derv a cupple of years ago with out power steering and it was hard work

I would of thought the crank would be the same - if anything i'd of said the conrods would be a lot more stressed than the crank? but i doubt there would be any difference in the conrods or crank between a n/a diesel and a turbo diesel - could be wrong though? but just think a n/a diesel is usually about 20:1 compression anyway so things have to be pretty strong!

Well i've just ordered diesel shells for my F7R 714 so guess the Meggie ones are diesel, but arent all the F engines originally based around a diesel design?

Yeah the shells and thrust washers and seals etc are common for all F-types

The first variant of the F-type I think was the 1721cc in the early 80s, the diesel didnt come along until the mid 80s

the diesel crank is actually better than the petrol cranks, better fillet radius etc.

The cranks are the same d or td same with rods.

1721 F2N was the original engine iirc

apparently so but when you see them side by side you can see the difference.

Apparently and I'm going by Craig on this one the diesel crank is not only lighter but tends to be better balanced from the factory
