Trying to Buy a Ph2 With a Few Potential Red Flags

Hi All,

This Monday I went to go an check out a Black Ph2 that looked to be in good condition, but upon closer inspection, I found a few things that may be cause for concern.
I took photos of the area where the plaque should be, but it was missing with holes drilled for fixing it to the car. The numbers under the carpet under the driver's seat and on the windows also did not match, although the etched window numbers were the same. I don't know much about this sort of thing, so I'd really appreciate any information you guys could provide. I know that some Renault UK cars didn't have plaques but I don't know what that's meant to look like.
Thank you for your help.

All looks fine to me. The chassis number on the shell is correct.

That car is one which is known not to have a plaque, so just some holes is exactly what you would see. :approve:

Thanks for your help, Duncan!
If all goes well I should have it sitting in the drive in the next few weeks.

Think I'm right in saying the 07000 111333 number on the window etchings is a security phone number. Dont know about the other one above it.

The etchings you see on the windows are a 7-character security number (e.g. RFB1234) and the telephone number of the International Security Register (ISR), which is a service operated by RETAINAGROUP.

Make sure that all windows have these etchings, and that they are all identical..........

Shown below is an excerpt from a document I received when I transferred ownership of [v6plaque]002[/v6plaque] soon after purchasing it. If you haven't done so, you should contact RETAINAGROUP and have the ownership transferred to your name, after which you will receive confirmation of 'Change of Ownership' (via email).

"The Retainagroup system is based upon three simple but highly
effective procedures – Marking, Registration and Verification

1. Vehicle windows are etched at factory, Import Centre or Motor dealership with an
overtly visible, permanent, unique 7 digit security code and the 24/7 contact
telephone number of the International Security Register (ISR).The chassis and other
major parts of the vehicle can also be marked using state of the art laser and stencil
systems, an electrolysis process or ultra destruct labels.

2. Vehicle and owner details are recorded on a secure and confidential database –
the International Security Register (ISR) – owned and operated exclusively by
Retainagroup.

3. The 24/7 manned ISR contact line (no answer machines or recorded messages)
provides an all year round, immediate verification service for vehicle identity, rightful
ownership and Police National Computer stolen vehicle status
."

Er......the facility to upload/attach PDFs seems to have disappeared - it may be useful to have this info in the knowledge base.

Thanks for the info Dulan.
So for the £21 fee the car goes on a database and if recovered can be traced back to the owner via the ID markings?

The £21 charge is to change ownership of a vehicle already registered on the ISR. I believe only manufacturers are/were able to register vehicles with ISR/RetainAGroup.

According to the RETAINAGROUP web site Renault are not on the list of manufacturers who use the service today.
