Trickle Charger...Recommended ?

Parking up for the winter, would you/do you use a trickle charger ?
If so what make do you recommend ?

Thanks guys...

I’m going to be a philistine and report that it doesn’t really matter for mains trickle chargers brands.

I’ve used ctek for years for my hobby cars and ride-on mowers but had a couple fail on me. Probably because they were then operating in an environment where there was little protection from air moisture and temperature changes at the time.

At the point of failure, I got annoyed and bought a handful of Lidl chargers (which had similar functionality) and these have been great for years. The frustration is that they are only available to purchase when in stock.

Agree with Kett. I've had a Ctek for many years but also bought the lidl one and think they were £12/15 and do the same job.

I can't recall if the lidl one has a connection which can remain on the battery or if its only the crocodile type clip as if so it would mean removing the luggage tray each time while with the Ctek I have the plug run through the drain pipe making life a little easier.

^^^Good point about the plug. There’s always a nagging doubt that the front tub will crack on removal/insertion. The special Ctek fitting allows an accessible plug to mounted on situ.

Ctek has to be the best option….

I use optimate on Clio & original battery lasted about 14 yrs, i use same model on Maserati & battery didn’t last as long.
The trouble with trickle chargers is you never really know full state of battery, the Maserati would say fully charged and start but if you left it for sometime to fend for itself it wouldn’t always.
For over winter use they are good, my trouble is I don’t use the garage queens enough.
I have heard mixed reports on Lidl units, but their track saw, now thats verygood.

CTEK for me. The Lidl one I had back in the day gave up the ghost and ended up locking me out the car.

This is the CTEK set up I've got for the Clio...

CTECK here, hard wired to the battery and the plug is located next to the suspension top mount.

Used the same charger on my CSL that used to see less daylight than Dracula and it was never an issue.

I run around 90 -100 battery chargers as my job.

The c etc ones have become problematic over the years and just stop working, now we are switching over to either the Maypole 4amp or the Noco brand chargers.

Likewise, using NOCO and no issues yet. I would also recommend a NOCO jump starter if anyone is in the market for one.

CTEK here too, with a hard wired plug. I only turn it on for a couple of days every fortnight or so when the car isnt in use.

Have used CTEK for years (since 2000), and still do, but now there are other players in the market.

I find this accessory quite useful in cars that have an active 12V (Cigarette Lighter Socket) - works wonders on the Exige S RGB, where the battery is a real pain to access, but, unfortunately, this will not work on the Vee. :(

CONNECT CIG PLUG

Is that cos the socket is ign live? For charging purposes I guess you could hard wire it to perm live.
Correct, The Vee has the pigtail connection to the battery with a connector on the end...
