the Ultimate Retro Renault meet/event

Oh another tip is to not book the ferry online, call them up and book it, they often have special discounts (which is what I did and saved £100) when you phone and use the midnight ferry as well, again its often cheaper ;)

what size is the tank? My cabby does about 450 mile on a tankful if diven economically. Would you take the Twingo on this trip Prab?

I reckon if i were to stick to 65/70 on long trips and not rev the nuts off on accelerating from standstill around town i might be able to get near to 400 miles maybe 380ish, my twingo i worked out the other day using £75 fuel, did 500 miles averaging 85/90ish mph is about 35mpg, i guess on this trip it wouldn't be too bad as we will be driving in a foreign land obviously not gunning it too much!

So we need to plan the route, find out the stops we want to do, decide how long for and when it is, where we'd stay along the way, and price everything up :)

somebody work all these things out then tell me in bullet point form and ill be there, having so much notice makes it so much easier, also i have been planning to do a long drive round europe at some point, this just makes it eighty percent awesome

Right did a little research, no where near want I want to do, but just checked a few things and came up with this:

Retro Road Trip - Provisional Route

That route has us starting in Dover, catching a Ferry to Dieppe (where I believe the 19 was designed), Driving down to Le Mans and the other stops there (as on TIB's old route), heading across to the Milau Viaduct, then down to East Barcelona - Alcaniz.
I know this year the WSR was held on the 17-18 April. This could mean the date could change for 2012, as it used to be after Silverstone in Sept

nice work lewis, im mad into this, its ambitious for our cars but we have 2 years to prepare and we'd be traveling with a fleet renault eggheads so should be safe enough. I hope that i have a reliable 19 by then, also im definitely not being first in the convoy, i can barely get out of my drive way...

Well like you said I'm mad into it also, so I'm trying to do a lot of research into it. Where we should go, how to get there, how long it'll take, how much it'll cost, how long we go for, when we go, where we stay (and cost), fuel and tolls, what we need to take, whos coming etc, etc, etc

my hats off to you lewis, grab that bull by the horns, id have to come in through either fishguard or pembroke from here, according to the planner the drive from each dock is about 5.5 hours so fishguard i guess as the ferry trip is a fair bit shorter from here. I am a definite for this, I have two years to start saving and two years to get a reliable 19

either way id be coming through cardiff and bristol so a posse would be assembled en route

Why thank you ;), Yeah sounds like a fair old plan. I left the start at Dover so people can plan their own routes to a central meeting point down there. I'd be coming down from the East, so would maybe convoy with the Midlands lot.
I'm hoping by planning and getting to some answers and figures, we'll have better numbers as people don't like to blindly say yes to such a big event!
For the miles covered in the round trip I'm saying about £300 - £350 in fuel. 5 or so tanks at 400 miles a tank :)

id better sort that leaky petrol tank out i think... who knows what will cost what in two years but its good to have a ballpark figure i think.

well put me down as a definite for this, 100%, itll give me something to get me through the next two years

Haha! Ok well that's good! I need to sort my 'on it's last legs' fuel pump. But I've another ready to go in :)
I'm tired now, I'll have another look tomorrow

two whole years to do it, youll be fine, i really cant wait for this, i get a holiday abroad once every 5 or 6 years so this one will be due, and ill have the cabby with me which will be incredible
