The Cycling Thread

You boys are proper getting into your bikes, can see the attraction and some nice gear on show ;) running was more my thing but post 40's def not what it used be and long abandoned lol

How do you guys find road use? I used to cycle to work in Solihull bk in the day (about 19 miles each way) and did for about 9 months mostly through winter and tbh lucky not to be smudged :). With general driving poor imo would worry me now but maybe not any worse?

Looking bk you forget how much youth definitely helps :D

Btw tracking km's is cheating, miles for the win ;)....I have to convert lol

I don't get to ride that much anymore with work being busy and having to drive for the commute. But I cycled through london everyday for 8 years, before they invested in the recent bike lanes. I foud it safer in London that riding in country lanes.
In the countryside you'll find somebody driving without anticipating a horse or bike and it's lethal. I had near-missed and slight brushes with cars when cycling in London, but I felt in control and reltively safe..... which I don't feel on country roads. It doesn't stop me though.

Sam that's amazing!!

In other news, after the no go Shimano shoes I ended up buying NorthwaveDSC_1548.webp

Sam thats ace. I could do with that skill, as even the XL frames feel a bit small for me!

Ric - that last pic looks cold mate I think i'd opt to stay indoors with a cuppa haha!

New Shimano pedals fitted and this 4.5L Expedition frame pack from Apidura. Robust and waterproof so it's ready for the big rides, it's been Baltic the last week but next weekend sees it at a heady 14-15 degrees. I'm planning a 150 mile ride broken up into 2 days.

Talking of long rides I think I forgot to mention this one I did back in November. Left the house at 4am so I rode in the dark for at least 3-4hrs until sunrise, puncture 1 at 5am.so that was fun swapping out innertubes in the dark on a country road using the cycle light! Puncture again at 94 miles, then the sat nav battery died around 105 miles so I then had to rely on Google maps stop starting which was a pain. I stopped at 4pm on 139 miles as the light was fading, an amazing experience and a true test of character throughout that day. It cemented my need to do more rides like this.

Thought I'd take the rear wheel off the Flanders road bike as it had a slow puncture which turned out to be a threaded part right below the presta valve part so I've tweaked it up, we will see. Another part I overlooked when overhauling the bike when I bought it was the brake pads so I fitted new 105 brake pads.

Accessories, the Apidura 13L back pack arrived, nice and light at only 101g and folds up nice and neatly.
