The 1957 Dope Dauphine

Ever since I converted to 12v ive been dissatisfied with the lack of yellow in the front lights. The old original 6v french bulbs were a lot more yellow than the modern counterparts. So ive given the headlights some tint film. Its crap to use and fit but looks OK from a meter plus away. There's a few wrinkles around the edges that annoy me. I'm sure there are some pros out there that could do a really neat job but it will do for now.

Remember the guy from way back at the start who seemed rude as hell and didn't sell me his dauphine. He doesn't remember a thing, and seems like a nice bloke lol. Had a few Dauphine bits for sale and he turned up and bought them (y)

Can you encourage my laziness a bit more, by telling me how you did your engine lid props ? I fancy making some for mine To promote better air flow and it will give a tiny bit of Aero help at high speed. I wonder if the lid will stay in shape though. They really are just tin cans on wheels
cheers

Ive managed to get my speedo working by shaving down the original dauphine speed cables connector from a flat spade connector to something closer to a square, it seems to work well now and locates nicely in the gearbox. reads a little out but nice to have something working so i can rough out how fast im travelling. Another pikey fix and saved me buying an r8 speedo cable. My non working fuel gauge turned out to be a loose connection on the tank so that's also sorted.

As i like to take the Dope out as much as possible the Wife and I went for a little jaunt to Ross-on-Wye to pick some shopping up, on the way back we took the back roads home and drove through some of the little villages close by and stopped by a very pretty "castle" and took some pics. Rides very well, will hit 70mph with relative ease now (much to the wifes concern)

So ive been wanting to change the look of the car a little and had a hankering for some round yellow fogs. Ordered the retro ones above and they arrived today. Had a little play with positioning and found where I think I like them. The original position I placed them they just looked plonked there and would of been wiped out very quickly. Can be removed at a later date if needed but I like them. Need to make up some wiring to get them functional as a fog and spot light.

I see what you’re trying to do there... but I think the lights are too big to be so close to the ground...

I think they would look win above the numberplate, but guess it would be a sod of a job mounting them as the bonnet (boot) opens forwards doesn’t it..?

im not a fan of them up top, gives the car 4 eyes and looks weird.

they are probably higher from the floor than a set on a turbo 2 tbh. I can unbolt these in minutes if they don't suit after leaving them a while. I was bored today thats all 😁

Looks smart, and better with the complete bumper I think. That ain't going to cure the boredom for long. I too am realising my mistake of getting the car out of hibernation in Sept, it seemed like a good idea at the time, but it is cold in the workshop these days
All the best

As it wasn't raining today I uncovered the Dope and gave her a little run out. I had to jump it with a duff battery but it was enough to catch. I think the battery on there is totally duff now, itll last a day or 2 after a run but if left it doesn't have the guts to get it to fire.

Im still un decided tbh. I really like them but I really like it without them too lol. Easy swap either way though. I have wired them in now too so they are useable not that i actually use it enough to use them 🙈 Got lots of ideas of what to do next, I think wheels/banding should be high on my list.

Without them its almost bearable.

With them it looks like something out of scrapheap challenge built by a crew with a combined IQ of 70.
thanks for the love as always dave, I think you like it really and just hate the fact it has less rot in than either of your classic Renaults.
