The 1957 Dope Dauphine

id love to have a c1j in the back of it but its finding a gearbox that can take the power without throwing a wobbly. Snorty carb noises my have to suffice for now
 
I think nearly all of it is still original from factory on this car.

Is a 289 box going to cause me issues with the UJ's and half shafts/tubes at all, i was planning to bolt them straight back up to the 300?

The old engine and gearbox are meant to be a trade for the 4 speed box, i have no idea if this is a good deal or not tbh?

I think im pretty much there now, just prep for when i get the new stuff.
Not sure on shafts, think you’re getting an early 8 box, do you know what code it is?
Think they’ll be fine, obvs spines need to match, I’m interested what you’re getting, if you’re happy with deal, that’s all that matters.
Sure 8G workshop lists box’s and weaknesses, as I said before Dave Wheeler is your man for Renault trans, think I’ve got his email/mobile/ address somewhere....he’s the original pukka bloke.He was active on RCCC, what little I know is all from him .
 
its a type 330-00 with a 10 spline input so i think its very early? confirmed it has the axle end caps too (y)
 
Not much done today on it, used my favourite por15 on the rear subframe thing. Will give it a coat of primer and paint too at some point to give some extra protection. But its fared very well for its age.

Good and bad day all in one, went and collected my 4 speed gearbox and was gifted a seized 956cc engine as well, great for spares and stuff. Cheer Duncan (y)

The down side is i took a quick look at the gearbox once home and the output shafts have a different spline count to my Universal Joints and half shafts, not sure what to do now, i was on the impression that it would all bolt in fine though i do think @Turbell mentioned it as a potential issue. Bit stuck now...

What do want/got?
Got 956 piston and liners I think, if you want.

I think i am in need of some 20 spline half shafts? that is if they still have a 10 spline at the wheel end? Do you know if that's how the shafts are?

Engine wise i wont be building this one back up, i will stick with the 1108cc block and 956cc head ive already said i would buy, i will then use the best parts from both heads to build it all up again, though i think the heads look different.
 
I have both sets of UJ's here

is it a case one pulling them all to bits and just re assembling them with the opposite 2 halfs to meet what I need?
 
Never had to do it, never done it, but yes, all mine will be 10 at diff, but think they’re fine to shafts???....I’d have to look, I’ve slept since....
 
lol yours are the opposite to what I need, fancy a swap 😁 I will do some measuring and see if I can hybrid them
 
Possibly 4cv are 10 both ends, but maybe 318 Gordini box came with fine diff and course shaft end uj’s , I really can’t remember, if there’s owt you need shout and I’ll help if I can, sure you can pull snap rings on uj’s, but may be single use, I dunno....I can certainly remember thinking I might have to hybrid them, but which way.....Time passes my mind lapses...
 
Oh bugger, it looks like the r8 driveshafts are 2cm too long for my dauphine. Im not sure there is even a dauphine specific driveshaft in the setup i need? @Steve Swan any ideas? Ive had a quick look at the universal joints too and they look to be 2 different sizes so it doesn't look like i can put different halves together.

Back to the drawing board, maybe cut and shut some r8 shafts to the right length? ill do some more investigation.

Dauphine Gordini halfshafts possibly then?
All but the early drum braked Gordini had split case box like you’re fitting, Paul Cunningham poss help?

The 314 that came out of my car has 20 spline outers and 10 inners, I’ll check others but I ain’t hopeful
 
I’ve got 10/10 and 10/20 ( diff/shaft) 10/10 are from a Dauphine 289 like yours , 10/20 will 314 4cv, so you need some 4cv shafts.
