The 1957 Dope Dauphine

No bother, I’ve got new and quality pre loved, you can have a preloved, quality assured item for post cost, just been in a 4cv and driven a few miles, I’ll see what what there is, if I’ve got as many as I think a new one would be a tenner plus post.
Ive got various NOS pressure plates as well, like the one pictured and later 4/5/6/8/10 I think, if Ever needed

Awesome stuff cheers @Turbell much appreciated.

Any tips on the next steps, I've cleaned it all down, drained the fluids and was going to pull the engine off the box for easier transport. How do I remove the half shafts from the gearbox? looks like a ring of bolts each side and that's it?

17mm ? Bolts round box retain two half shells that have swing axles in on needle roller bearings......don’t let them fall off axle tubes!
Outer shell pulls down tube then you take tubes/halfshafts off, KEEP INNER SHELL tight on box cos that retains diff/bearings/0.25 gasket
When I’ve washed off later I’ll take some pics of a box with shafts/collers on

Cheers sounds a little involved 👍🏻I've just found a section on it in the manual so will have a few reads of it too.

Engine separated and in the garage, heavy little bugger too.

This is a 314 3 speed Dauphine box, shows collars one stays on box, uj bolted to diff with m6, outer collar over tube with caged trunnion bearings trapped in cutouts, they wear on tubes, so checked condition, another aid to rear wheel steering

Cheers for that @Turbell im awaiting a pic of the new gearbox to see how much i need to remove off mine, i was told its just the gearbox alone so i need everything else.

Important bit is inner collars match box, cos that’s how diff bearings are shimmed, new gaskets therefore have to be right thickness etc, outer won’t matter as much as long as it fits I would think.
You’re gonna effectively have a late Dauphine Gordini transaxle wise, so yep, keep hold until you’re sure, think mounts are sided etc.....but mine doesn’t use mounts there, Dauphine is lot more involved mount wise, depending on year sometimes there’s shims , but again if I haven’t done it , I don’t know for sure.

so fingers crossed the inner collars are still on there or im into a world of hurt? mounts do look different left to right and it looks to have an upper mount too.

Inner collars are important yeah......if they’re missing it isn’t a complete box, so valuewise it’s worth a pair of primark pants, I’ve got access to the tooling to shim diff bearings. But you’d need collars from right box( no idea if split case box/non split are interchangeable) , and fingers crossed you could get/make/beg shims, again never done it up to press , so.....
Sure new box will have them otherwise diff would be rattling around in case.

@Turbell I'm not sure if you can help but I'm stuck lol. when trying to remove the shaft the whole back ring/inner collar wants to come with it?

Have you pulled halfshafts out from wheel end?, uj’s have a m6 to retain them to diff output so halfshafts should pull out, leaving uj’s and inner collars on

Whoop all apart now. The manual didnt mention pulling the shafts and I was being abit delicate as I was scared of fecking it all up. All stripped bar the UJ and Top mounting bracket. The side gearbox mounts are fubar, one fell off with the rubber completely separated from the backing plate! All fun though, I love getting into something like this that I've never done before. The gearbox is the lightest I've ever seen, suppose it didnt have to deal with much power so isnt that big. Here have some pics 👍🏻

That's a 289 box, so right for year I think, new mounts will tighten it all up.
What you doing with old box and lump?
I've got a '57 Dauphine to get more driveable/user friendly for a geezer , I've built him the 314 out of a box of bits in case, cos he says his box is fubar, but I think linkage will be my first looksee, just waiting till I can go and collect car and see whats what.....all candy and nuts til I drive it.
You've cracked on, be interested to see it come together, but well done, new ground is always fun.

I think nearly all of it is still original from factory on this car.

Is a 289 box going to cause me issues with the UJ's and half shafts/tubes at all, i was planning to bolt them straight back up to the 300?

The old engine and gearbox are meant to be a trade for the 4 speed box, i have no idea if this is a good deal or not tbh?

I think im pretty much there now, just prep for when i get the new stuff.

new ground is always fun, i agree.

ive been doing stuff in my current job that id never encountered before. ive decided that im going to take apart my leaky clio gearbox and see how i get on when i finally get round to removing it. bearings, seals and possibly a diff. we shall see

this all looks very good by the way, i had anticipated a c1j tbh, obviously a lot of engine for the car, but i wouldnt be able to resist the snail.

a shame to take that original motor out now it looks so good!!
