The 1957 Dope Dauphine

Got up early this morning and went for a brief stroll before the rest of the world started getting out and obviously took some frosty pics of the Dope.

Then abit later on, emptied out the ice sheets from the floor, flicked the heating on and took her for a quick blast in the sunshine. There's a vineyard just down the road so pulled in for a few more phone pics. Something right about an old French car being on a vineyard, shame it wasn't in France also.

After a mix up with an online order we needed to get a click and collect order at the closest town with a supermarket. Any excuse to use the Dope 😁

all good fun, cruises along nicely. The speedo is about 10mph to gps at 85 on the dash.

Ordered some bits for the Dope, because you know when you have one car in bits with the engine missing you should work on the other one too.....

New exhaust parts and pipe ordered up to replace the sieve like box that's on there at the moment, Ill be trying to make one that sits across the back of the car, a longer smoother run with a slightly bigger bore. Im not expecting anything but a nicer noise though may help further down the line if i ever slap a cam in, bump the compression and fit a decent carb.

Next up was some gear selector bushes, or silentblocks as they are called. Back when I built the car I solid mounted the linkage, I'm pikey and it worked..... If I hit a decent bump in the road it will knock it out of gear though, new rear engine mounts and the Rover V8 gearbox mounts have stiffened everything up back there quite abit so I think I need to add some cushion back in to stop this happening. Supplied by @Duncan Topliss from Retro Renault Services (y)

Hopefully if everything turns up in a timely manor that's my next weeks entertainment :D

already ordered up a 4 inch round x 18inch long can which should work (y)
Should be Dandy. Will get rid of the bare back end thing you were playing about with bumpers for. Try to keep in in the tumblehome of the back panel, so it does not protrude from the rear. Sound arguing point if authority decides to be a pain in the arse. Used to be a MOT issue........

was going to try and keep it tucked as far back in as possible, hang it from the rear cradle?

I use Sherpa van springs to attach the exhaust to the manifold by welding narrow stainless nuts to each pipe and nicking them with a grinder to make them into hooks. it allows the engine to move slightly without stressing the exhaust. works perfect and I raced with it for 10 years without issue. also exhaust can be removed in about 90 secs, SIMPLES. It will also help to make the exhaust as long as possible, I know that is not very long , but every inch helps, just like so many things in life.

@Adey . Have you seen this?? So cool, I did a gearbox for it, but have not heard from the owner in some time. I hope Him and the car are OK

A Dauphine Judson Such a pretty period piece.

I was bored this morning so cracked on with the exhaust, don't criticise too much, it was slapped together with a gasless mig, loads of fun to play with lol. We have gone from the old blowing original dauphine exhaust with a 40mm inlet (i sleeved it to 45mm) and a 1 inch outlet to a full 1.75 inch (45mm) long system. It definitely sounds fruitier, I should slap it back on the dyno and see if its added anything but noise lol defo feels a little better...... Not sure if i like how it looks or anything but it can stay for a while (y)
