sticky idle and cutting out when pulling up to stop

hi all this is my first post just got my new valver this is number 3 phase 2 1996 model all standard except k and n filter standard box and full scorpion exhaust
loving the car not had one in five years miss them too much had to get another  but have this small problem fast idle when warm 1200 rpm and when pulling up at lights or into roundabouts it sometimes stalls very dangerous has anyone got any ideas please i was thinking dirty throttle body butterfly or throttle position sensor or idle control valve any help would be much appreciated

High idle when warm after a thrash could also be the road speed sensor behind the dash. Might need re-earthing, common problem.

If it's chugging/cutting out this will probably the idle speed control valve (cylinder next to throttle body on inlet) which will need a clean.

Any other questions just ask :D

thanks what does the road speed sensor look like will give that a clean

It's not in the engine bay its a sensor on the end of the speedo cable behind the clocks. Never seen one so don't have a pic i'm afraid.

This will have a black earth cable on it, worth disconnecting it and earthing it to the chassis behind the clocks for a decent earth.
